Greatest Westerns: 3.10 To Yuma/The Man From Laramie/... [DVD]

The title of this box set is most misleading. Greatest: a superlative. Using the adjective 'great' on some of these films would be a misnomer. Is it worth the money? Quality wise no. How 'High Plains Drifter' got mixed up in a box of highly regarded westerns, I will never know. The quality of the daytime colour scenes is good, everything else about the film is atrocious. 'Shenandoah', pacifists during the civil war just didn't work for me: too slow and too many shadowy night scenes. 'Stagecoach' was marred by the poor reproduction quality. 'The Man from Laramie' I enjoyed, and also 3-10 to Yuma. I was pleasantly surprised with 'Forte Apache', the quality was better than I expected, and for me, this was the pick of the bunch. Beware of assortments of old films, the storylines can be good but the quality usually lets them down. Slightly overpriced but at £2 per DVD one cannot really grumble. 'High Plains Drifter' is definitely one for the rubbish bin.

I enjoy watching a western every now and then. I am no aficionado of the genre by any means but this is a good mix of films and good value.

bought for my dad who loves westerns, they have already been watched so they must be good, he seemed to know them all when i gave the set to him so i guess i good value set.

Only watched 2 films out the collection so far and 1 was in black and white ,if you love westerns you can't go wrong buying this and its in a great package

Excellent present for my husband. Loves westerns and this willkeep him happy over xmas. Seen most of them but will watch again and again.
