Great tool but must hack
I ordered these gloves after trying EVERYTHING. Here are my thoughts:Pros- concrete reminder to not suck thumb, machine washable(they get really dirty), fit well, light weight and breathable materialCons- easily(really) removed, easily bitten a hole through(will elaborate later) , takes parent supervision/dedication, child will try to replace oral fixation(with toys, food, biting random things)Ok so I bought these for my 4 yo who sucked his thumb and was addicted BAD. He developed a really ugly callus on the favorite thumb. Despite doctors, dentist, parent, grandparents, kids, strangers and Santa trying to convince him to stop, he would choose his thumb over everything. I tried the bitter nail polish, hot sauce, jalepeño juice and even at the advice of an older family member I convinced him his thumb was covered in poop.(it was not real poop but he thought it was) Regardless, nothing worked. He didn't even care about the fake poop! Sucked it right off! So here I am with a huge 4yo who will choose sucking his thumb over any/everything. I gave these gloves a shot, why not?The first day I put them on, he unsnapped them and had that thumb in his mouth. So I got a little crafty. I put the square bandages on his thumbs(with ointment on the callus) then the glove THEN secured the gloves with athletic tape.(I used a pencil when wrapping the tape and then removed after to make sure tape wasn't too tight) with the band aids and tape, these gloves were now effective in keeping his thumb out of his mouth! The first week was the hardest but two weeks later and he now wears them only at night, no tape needed anymore. I will say though, now he eats nonstop. The first week I saw him put toys in his mouth, bite the gloves all out of frustration. I would advise par regents to have something to ease the oral fixation, sugar free gum, fruit, healthy snacks... It really helps. Think of what a smoker goes through, because the child will have some withdrawal like symptoms and having an acceptable coping mechanism helps a lot.

Reminds them not to suck their thumbs, but does not prevent it
The concept is good, however this product fails in two ways: 1.The child can easily pull the glove off their thumb and down around their wrist. Almost every night my son has worn the glove, I came in to check on him after he's asleep and the thumb has been pulled off. 2. I have had to repair this glove a number of times because the seams keep coming loose. This product succeeds as a reminder to the child that they should not be sucking their thumb, but it is far from a preventative product. Finally, you may want to buy two sets because they get dirty and it's a pain to wash them every day!

Work well for us.
I have researched many products. I looked at the plastic ones that cover the thumb but those cause rubbing issues and don’t breath which can cause more damage. My son is 2.5 years old and loves his thumbs. He will suck either just depending on which is convient and free. This is actually the second time I purchased these gloves. The first ones were medium and just a little too tight for my liking and his. He has really large hands for a 2 year old. So medium would be fine in my opinion for an average 2 year old.My son knows he shouldn’t suck his thumb and 90% of the time he does it from just boredom. If I say “take your thumb out of your mouth” but after a few minutes it will mindlessly find it’s way back. These gloves are perfect for him. He does not try to pull his thumb out however I’m sure he could if he was determined. The only reason I’m not leaving a 5 Star review is for us there are 2 cons. 1) I feel the pricing should be closer to $20. These are handmade items and I have not had any issues with stitching or button failure. 2) It would be nice if there was some type of griping surface on the inside. The material is slick and when we go to the playground I have to take them off so that he can grip the handrails in order to climb stairs etc.

It’s working for us!
We’ve had these gloves for two weeks now and they have made a noticeable difference. My son is 9 and due to some sudden and intense changes in our family situation he’s reverted to thumb sucking to cope. As an older child, he can take the gloves off as he pleases but doesn’t. He says they’re very comfortable and he even forgot to take them off one morning and had them all day at school. He did come home and tell me how everyone asked about them and he told them to stop asking him (diversion) but he’s determined to break his habit. They’ve been washed with no problems. I buttoned them together so they wouldn’t get lost and I haven’t had any issues.Every kid is different and what works for one won’t work for all but I’m happy and my child is making progress. Good luck in your journey!

They Will Quit When They Are Ready
Bottom line: your kids will NOT stop sucking their thumbs until they are READY to stop sucking their thumbs. We bought these for our 8-year old. A little too tight for her. They wore out quickly and they only worked when she was ready to stop sucking her thumbs. It helped having someone other than her parents (an orthodontist) teach her about why she needed to stop sucking her thumb, then she was ready.
