Makita763198-1 Keyless Chuck with 1/4" Hexagon Shank

Seems to be very well build and does what it's supposed to do. Reading some of the one-star reviews here where people have issues with bit release when stopping, I wonder if they hadn't realised that pushing the collar of the chuck toward the bit prevents the tightening/loosening mechanism from engaging? I.e. the centre of the chuck spins independently.

Robust good quality if not a little heavy but very good does have a tendency to drop bits when backing them out in reverse

I bought this on a whim, it’s not that the product isn’t useful or that it has a purpose but since I bought it I can’t say I’ve used it much. The build quality is much better than other I used to own. The teeth of the chuck grab the bits securely and even with larger bits I’ve had no sliping. It’s the quality you expect from a makita product, just ask yourself how often your going to use it

This is far better than anything similar very handy and reliable.

Worked once then jammed and broke, don’t bother, total waste of money, invest in a proper drill instead.

Very solid materials, nice finish and polished steel. Unfortunately, there is no way to lock safely the drilling bit. It supposed to lock, twisting the gear and lift the head from base gear, everything seems fine... But when you star to drill, the spinning force open up the chunk immediately. If you try the drill before to put against the wall, the bit take off and is not safe. The price is good for the materials used to made it, but the design is very bad.

Looking for a universal drill chuck for my impact driving was getting discouraging. Lots of import junk out there that is rough as a cob. Then this chuck from Makita popped up and it was not a disappointment. Typical high quality Makita quality exemplified by smooth operation, tight grip on drills, ease of use and lifetime workmanship.

I have a Makita DTP141Z, impact driver.It's a very versatile tool when you have a hex bit driver. For the odd cases where a chuck is required, I use this Makita 763198-1 Keyless Chuck.I use the drill mode at speed 1 or 2, forward or reverse. The jaws hold tight.I've used this chuck to make pilot holes to build furniture and to use the bits that come with anchor systems.It allows me to save on an extra drill for now.
