Makes Ride to School More Fun!
Overall we really like it! I got the soundtrack because we really like the movie. I agree with the other reviewers' comments, not all the songs are really appropriate for kids (my son is 5), but with all the action in the movie, you aren't really paying the lyrics close attention. When you are listening in the car, whoa! A few songs I just skip over. I needed some upbeat music to help get a sleepy 5 year old off to school and it works.

Henry Jackman Delivers Heart & Energy In This Great Score
Henry Jackman has instantly become one of the busiest and probably most versatile composers working in the industry. I seriously have never seen someone jump around from genre to genre as much as Henry has so early in his career. Animation has quickly become a specialty of his from Monsters Vs. Aliens, Puss In Boots, Winnie The Pooh and Wreck-It Ralph. Turbo marks his third Dreamworks Animation venture as head composer and he brings another solid score to the table. Turbo's soundtrack release was something of a strange oddity with 3 different versions released. The normal CD version is a mixture of songs with some of Henry's score. iTunes has a deluxe version with some additional score. Then Amazon has the 100% score album, and this is the one being reviewed as it's the best representation of the score.Turbo does a fantastic job of introducing you to the sound pallete and character focus of the score before introducing you to the main theme. A wonderful blend of orchestra and electronics give the score a unique identity very much like Wreck-It Ralph. Jackman scores the dramatic beats simply with a pretty standard approach. He just approaches it was a masterful touch to make the music extra special. This is your typical zero to hero story, which is rather similar to the arc of Wreck-It Ralph. In a way he executes it similarily as well. Jackman doesn't rely on the central theme very much at all, which gives the music a more character centric feel. Nothing about the music is goofy or "kiddy", which makes the emotional touches play very well. We even get a Morricone spaghetti western riff in this one that made me smile. It is a very light score, but it has its heartwarming moments. The orchestral colors are simply splendid, and it gives the music a breath of life. When the electronic textures come in it takes on the edge you hoped it would with a title like Turbo. The final act here is fantastic as we are treated to two 4.5-minute tracks back to back to close out the final race. You really get a sense of the score in these longer tracks. When the score wraps up you definitely feel the growth of character and journey completion. With almost an hour of score in this release you can rest assured the journey is worth taking.Turbo is good clean fun. A score with heart and energy that relies on its dramatic structure rather than thematic variation while still having plenty of melodies to carry it. The flourishing orchestral soundscape of the score is what really gives the music its character, and the electronic accents only sharpen the energy. Jackman pumps as much character as he can into this one to give it that awesome "feel good" ending. Definitely a wonderful effort from one of the more versatile composer auteurs.

Not ok for kids
Some of the songs on the album are great old school music but why they made a choice to include inapporiate songs is beyond me. They could have been omitted or easily editted...it's a kids' movie soundtrack! For example one songs talks about pimps and refers to police officers as pigs...Not Cool!

Not very kid friendly
I loved this movie when my son and I went to watch it, and it had old school music and some new catchy tunes. I thought the CD would have been kid friendly like kids bop, or other tracks from kids movies. NOPE!! These are just the adult version of teh songs with a couple of beeps/bleeps. I wish I would have just did the MP3 and picked "The snail is fast" song. You are better off picking select songs but not the whole CD. Very disappointed because this will not be playing in my car for me and my son to enjoy.
