If you are NOT starting with a shiny surface you can buy Dupli-Color Metal cast "GROUNDCOAT" and spray one coat of the ground coat . wait 15-30 minutes then spray with your color. It makes a HUGE difference.

Q: Will this paint work on wood?

YES IT WILL WORK ON WOOD .First you will have to buy Dupli-Color Metal Cast "GROUNDCOAT"Then 1. Spray one coat of the GROUNDCOAT wait 15-30 min 2. Spray with your color .. this will give you a shiny metallic look. its as close as you can get without painting it on chrome. I dont know why Rustoleum doesn't offer a groundcoat. if you use the groundcoat on other things like plastic it turns out almost as good as painting it on chrome

Q: Will this work on factory coated book ends? I have a few that are roughed up and I'd like to fix them up a bit.

Yes, I would use a fine grain sandpaper and sand them a bit, then use short bursts when you paint. Be careful of runs, they can be sanded out. I used this on my cell phone cover. Looks AWESOME!!!

Q: does this paint need a clearcoat or is clearcoat built into the paint

It has its own clearcoat in the paint, but you can clearcoat on top of it, if you want. I did it with their Glitter Clear Sealer.
