Q: My wife says the tea should go into the bottom with the strainer keeping it down and not the holding cup as I think it should?

Well you can use it either way. If u don't want to soak your tea leaves too long in the water u can put them on top of the strainer.----------------------------------------------------------------------EDITED: Our newly improved tumbler now comes with a infuser as well. So you could brew and drink your tea however you like (instructions in demographic picture above)

Yes, you can put your cut-up fruits under the tea strainer, the strainer will click into place so you can continue to infuse the fruits while you drink. Hope this answers your question :)

Q: Is there a guarantee on the bottle? The bamboo has separated from the stainless steel making it difficult to unscrew the top.

It's no guarantee but I'm using myself long time the same long time. Good quality.
