Unusual Film.
Sitting through the first fifteen minutes was hard going, I really felt like giving up on it, but slowly it started to come together and began to intrigue me as to where it was going. In the end I have to conclude it really did not make the journey. Not sure why but I suspect that too much ground was covered with too little depth. I was willing Bale to pull something extra out of the hat but alas he did not.The stupid flashing lights and camera shake effects when Bale's character has a flashback, are really annoying……must have been an off day for special effects team. This could have been a very good film, but it's not……opportunity sadly missed. However, still worth watching.

and reconnect with old pal Mike (the shockingly good Freddie Rodriguez) Theres fun
David Ayer writes directs and even remortgaged his house to put up the money for this. He is only now getting widespread acclaim for his recent movie Suicide Squad, but this alerted me to his talent back then. Along with the outstanding director is Christian Bale fresh from his first stint as Batman with an unforgettable, brutal and heartbreaking performance as Jim a war veteran trying to get into Law Enforcement in L.A. and reconnect with old pal Mike (the shockingly good Freddie Rodriguez) Theres fun, thrills and a barrel load of pain to be had with this. Eva Longoria looks fantastic as ever but shows shes more than a pretty face as she mixes it with the awesome Bale and Rodriguez.

Incredible performance & Film
What can I say; as an ex Army 'person' I thought Christian Bale's 'performance' was amazing. I will leave it at that. David Ayrer, my hat is off to you!

It worked for me
Depressing, gritty saga of an Iraq veteran slowly imploding in the City of Angels, not due to war trauma, but because he's a psycho.Good performances from the entire cast. Bale is outstanding. He provides an American persona that most British actors could only dream of recreating (apparently he has a canny skill for using different accents in all his films).A bleak image of LA (probably accurate) and some shocking scenes, but it works well on the second run.

PTSD MOVIE
This film is about the aftermath of war, and what it does topeople.Christian Bale is an ex-solider trying to get his life into orderafter serving in Afghanistan. He wants to join the LAPD, buthis life style is getting in the way (to say the least). This isa sad story, that is far too true for many Veterans returningfrom war. Made only two years into the Iraq conflict, this movieis very relevant for today. Message?... War f***s people up...

Gritty realism
Best movie Ive seen for ages. Had me glued to it from start to finish. All the leading actors put in stellar performances, with Christian Bale being exceptionally good in the lead role. At first I thought some of the dialogue was a bit corny, but then realized that was the point. The 2 guys Mike and Jim are both flawed characters and gangster/cool guy wannabes in thier own ways. The overall impression of the film was of a griity realism, with very few, if any, unbelievable scenes.

I hoped for better from Christian Bale
Usual bent cops and robbers.I didn't finish it.Only one adjective in the dialogue ==FXXXXXX. I hoped for better from Christian Bale, perhapshe should have retired after "Empire of the Sun"

Good film, just shows how tough life is if you are from the wrong side of town. Dreams are shattered by ambition and stupidity.
