Q: is there a drainage hole in the bottom of the feeder?

There are three drain holes in a triangular pattern on the bottom of the feeder

Q: I bought this....can't figure out how to connect the chain to the feeder. The hook goes on top but each end has a straight piece???.

Glad to help. The two straight pieces are cotter pins. To assemble, insert the cotter pins through the small holes in the top of the feeder and reach in through the openings and spread the legs of the cotter pins with your fingers or pliers.
