A middle tier player for a good price
This is by no means the biggest and best player there is but it’s also by no means anywhere near the worst. If you want a UHD player with no frills then this is for you.If you already have a million other devices that have apps and can stream content and don’t need a player connected to WiFi , then this is for you.If you want to experience 4K HDR content but don’t want to spend half a grand on a player to get the latest and greatest, then this is for you. This player has worked well for me, the quality is good and unless you have a crazy home theater setup you really don’t need much more than this. If you have a mid range 4K tv this will be adequate enough. if you have a 4K tv without HDR, this will be MORE than enough. The player is whisper quiet EXCEPT at the beginning of loading the disc. Don’t freak out when it makes loud noises when first inserting the disc, it may even continue onto a little bit of the beginning of the film but after it’s done it is very very quiet. This is great for what it is and most certainly worth the price.

Almost fully impressed, only one issue with NAS streaming/pausing network video
I have had this unit for about a week and so far pretty impressed. A few recommendations and features I love about this unit:1. Update the firmware first thing you do via your wired (for this unit) internet connection. That will likely resolve any issues you may run into if you don't do this. There was a review recently that mentioned this unit does not play Dolby Atmos content/soundtracks. After I updated my unit, it DOES play Dolby Atmos just fine (assuming you have a receiver that can decode it and are playing a video encoded in Dolby Atmos). I assume this came with the update as I could also not find that Atmos is part of this unit in the standard manual. I was pretty disappointed to also find this out after getting the unit, but appears the firmware update now supports it and I can confirm the receiver reads "Dolby Atmos" from this unit.2. The picture and sound quality are unreal with a 4k/UHD tv. It may take a bit to figure out the picture settings and get the correct audio sent to any AV receiver, but it's worth it once it is setup correctly. I took a day for trial and testing.3. The unit has some pretty cool apps you can download that send the highest quality of video and sound to your AV receiver or TV (vs another device you might already be using) Netflix, Youtube, Spotify, connects to a NAS to stream videos you have on your network. I use a QNAP NAS that it found on my network immediately.4. Unit makes no noise, does everything it advertises and more. Upscaling is amazing for content not 4k/UHD. No jitter, freezing or audio sync issues. My only complaint or issue with the unit is when you stream any videos from your personal NAS device and you pause the video, the Samsung unit will go to sleep in about 10 minutes. There are no sleep settings on the unit. After 10 minutes, when the unit recovers from sleep, it no longer has your NAS video and you must start it all over. Contacted Samsung support and no resolution for this issue so far. I just found it very annoying to pause a few videos from my NAS half way through over the weekend, only to come back more than 10 minutes later and the video was no longer paused, just gone. The Amazon Firestick can resume NAS videos through Plex or other services, which is why I was more disappointed this unit did not, nor recovered from sleep mode nor had any option to get back to where I left off more than 10 minutes ago.Overall, this unit is awesome and does everything it says it will do and for the price it's very much worth it. There likely isn't a unit that does everything you want and if it does exist, it's probably too expensive. Just wish there was a sleep mode timer setting or it didn't lose connection to your NAS after it goes to sleep in 10 minutes.

Does it all, does it well.
Upgraded from 2012 Panasonic BDR. This new model is compact; has very quick and easy-to-use apps for Amazon and Netflix. The remote is simple and effective. The unit handles disks well. No long pauses in transitions at the top menu between disk and network functions: seamless, actually. It "just worked" with my DLNA setup, which is running from a home server on Linux Mint minidlna (the claim that it would do so is why I bought it, and it fulfills the claim). It finds the server quickly; was transparently compatible with some home video mkv files, not transcoded--no more "can't play" messages. Again, all this is documented--that's why I bought it. Although it wants a login and account for "apps," I skipped that, and it is not needed for the basic apps like Amazon and Netflix--something they should tell you before asking you to create an account, but hey, that's just business these days.In sum, I will replace my two Oppo 103's with these. They are faster, easier to use, and much more functional on the streaming side than dedicated streamers, yet at the same time require less privacy-invading setup. (Android boxes, I'm looking at you.)

Great video quality with HDR
Works as promised. Hooked it up to my Samsung UHD TV and I have 65 inches of UHD bliss! Really a much better picture than 1080p bluray. The HDR color also makes a big difference. I notice it in the Ultra HD bluray discs that I have. Works well. Don't let the lack of a front display discourage you, I have not missed it at all. It does upscale the 1080p discs also, but they are not as good as UHD. But... they are still better than they were! I have a 5 year old 1080p receiver and have no wish to upgrade it at this time, so I can't enjoy the better sound quality these discs provide. I have the player plugged directly to the TV and an optical digital cable returning sound to the receiver so that I can enjoy the better video quality. Got a really good price here on Amazon right before Christmas. Thanks Amazon. 1/2/2018I am revising my review down to 4 stars. I failed to understand that this player does not support Dolby Atmos sound. My fault for not seeing that right away, but I have been trying for over a month to figure out why my new receiver and my new 4K tv work so well but I can't get to the Dolby Atmos on my nice new 4K discs. It's the player folks. Just so you know, if you want the Atmos feature like I did, don't buy this product. It works well for all the other good 4K qualities.

Bad QA
I may have received a defective unit. The player randomly shuts off on the middle of playback. Also, the firmware for this unit has a ton of bloatware that cannot be removed. That's not as big a deal as it can be ignored, but the random shut downs can't be.
