lovely book
Read this book to my seven years old who has a similar story to Carlo. I am Italian and dad is English and he is bilingual but sometimes words can be messed up together or culture can interfere. Although there is always a way to find a way to meet two cultures together and to be happy. Lovely story to read to children and I was very impressed with the drawings too.

Lovely/Delizioso!
This book talks about the struggles and conquests of a bilingual boy when he's on holiday in Italy with his family. The author captured the feelings of the boy in an exquisite way, and the supporting adults' words are what you would hope every young person in this situation would hear.As a native Italian and teacher, the only reason I did not put 5 stars is that I was not 100% convinced by certain translations (eg. "encouraged" - "confortato" instead of "incoraggiato"), but this is me being very nitpicky. The book is definitely a worthy addition to any children's library and could be a very important tool for the integration pf bilingual students in schools as well.

Lovely book
This is a lovely little book which explores the challenges many bilingual children experience in their life in between two cultures. It is well written, sends a very positive message, and I’m sure it will be loved by both bilingual and non bilingual children, thanks to the easy to follow storyline and to the beautiful illustrations.

A perfect book for a bilingual child
I wish I had this book when I was growing up! As a bilingual I sometimes felt I didn't belong to one culture or the other...this is a great book that not only allows children to learn Italian but also understand their cultures and bilingualism. This book also has beautiful illustrations.

a celebration of being bilingual
A lovely story told in both languages, celebrating being bilingual and being a part of two wonderful cultures. Also identifies issues such as teasing and how it can stem from simply not knowing or understanding.

cute book for bilingual families
A cute book teaching children to be proud about being bilingual. A good early readers book for families wanting to teach their kids English & Italian. Ideal ages would be between 5-7 years old.

Poor writing
The book was gifted to us and it was rather disappointing. Probably the only thing that stood out were the illustrations, otherwise it was a write-off. We never picked it up again after going through it once.I have a bilingual child and the story was fairly short. Not only the actual writing is very limited (short sentences), but the translations are quite poor in places (some sound very unnatural in Italian, as if Google had done the translation, or something that as an Italian I'd never say). Also, as an Italian from the South, I couldn't but roll my eyes at the scene when the boy asks his grandma for 'spaghetti bolognese'. That really sealed the fate of this book. No, sorry. You may find those in restaurants for tourists, but NOT in an Italian grandma's house as 'special dish'.Definitely take with a pinch of salt, if you'd like to purchase this to other bilingual children as it leaves much to be desired.

Delightful Book For Bilingual Kids
My two bilingual (Italian-English) kids loved this book so much! Growing up in the US but spending summers in Italy they could relate so much to the main character! It was so nice to have something that helped them feel understood and helped to grow their confidence. The pictures were beautiful too! I know we will enjoy it over and over again!

Good book about acceptance and positivity
The book is about a young boy he needs to accept his multicultural background and learn to see that being part of 2 cultures also has its positive aspects. Furthermore , it also teaches others to accept children with multicultural backgrounds. They can all learn from each other. A good read for young children and their parents to learn about the challenges being bilingual may bring.

A true story of identity and intercultural understanding
Such a beautiful story following a young bilingual boy's journey of discovering his identity! A true lesson in the development of intercultural understanding for all children. Carlo's life experiences with his nonni and his amici whilst he is in Italy are brightly illustrated and highlight the beauty and charm of Italian culture. This is such a beautiful story to read with your own children as it is written in English and Italian and would be a great resource for teachers of Italian to teach young students through a relevant aspect of the Italian culture. I highly recommend this book!

A cute story with a wonderful message
This is a cute story with lovely illustrations. Throughout the story, the young characters are encouraged to embrace differences between cultures and to show kindness and compassion to one another. This book offers a nice view into Italian culture and is a nice introduction to the Italian language.
