This one-volume version is very heavy, but still a must-have for any gardener!

Bought this for my Mum in England and sent it to myself in Brittany by mistake! My fault entirely and so I ordered another for Mum the day before her Birthday and Amazon delivered. Kept my copy and I never regretted it, I have quite a few RHS books, they always live up to expectations, highly recommended.

I bought this book for my mum as her birthday present as she loves her garden. My mum sees plants she likes but never knows what they are. She has opened it and thinks it’s the best present I have bought her in ages. She can’t stop looking at. Perfect gift.

An excellent book with phenomenal attention to detail. A must for any plantsman. However as described this is in just one volume! As a result it’s rather cumbersome to use, definitely an opportunity for the next version! The book arrived in a presentation box as per description however the box was damaged on arrival. A real shame no-doubt due to the weight of the book. However I think it looks better on the shelf without.

The book is excellent and very informative. Mine arrived in a case with no carry handle. I wanted a case with carry handle to make it easier to carry the book around with me. Won't return because of this. Just thought other people considering purchasing this expecting a carry case should know.

My youngest is at horticultural college. It has so much useful information, they love it.Can't carry it to college though, it weighs a ton.

Apart from the packaging, the content of this book is very well arranged, and meticulously detailed. Plants are listed under a main entry, with sub-entries for varieties. This is obviously the only logical and efficient way to deal with thousands of plants that this encyclopaedia deals with. The information under each entry is sufficient for you to figure out how big a plant would grow, where and when it would thrive, and what you may expect in terms of foliage, flowers and fruits. The numerous colour pics add to the appeal of the book.A number of users have commented on the weight of the book. It is a large and heavy book, that you can’t carry around or lift with one hand either. It would be best to place it flat on a table or shelf where you can open it without moving it around too much or straining the binding (which is adequate, but not meant to withstand rough handling).
