Fruit Flies are the bane of my existence!
It's OK. I have 2 of these. 2 of the Terro Apples. And a 6 pack of the Beapo clear round traps. So there are other options - each with their own pro/cons - depending on your preferences: but none of them is perfect. And this will ultimately work. But you will definitely need more than one if you have a fruit fly problem - and as far as I'm concerned, as soon as I have ONE Fly, then I have a problem brewing. (Note: You can re-use them. When your "bait" runs out - refill with Apple Cider Vinegar (the darker colored the better). What I DO like about this Raid brand is that it is one of the more "attractive" of the options I have tried & it's design is less likely to let live fruit flies escape before their ultimate demise. However - being semi-transparent, it's also very obvious what it is - so you don't really want it where company can see it.It is easy to clean (should it get full & you have the fortitude & desire to re-use it) as it opens in the middle and "they" can simply be poured out in the trash & then rinse the container & refill with Apple Cider Vinegar & start again.Vs the Terro brand - which has the one piece fully opaque (non-transparent) Apple design: prettier to look at (& the Terro starter bait is better than the Raid starter bait - but long-term Apple Cider Vinegar works in either for refills) - but that Terro Apple takes a tiny bit more fortitude (less gag reflex) to clean out & re-use - as you will have to do it under running water at the sink.Which brings us to one more point when dealing with Fruit Flies to begin with: They also live in your drains! In the kitchen & the bathrooms (because we brush our teeth) & the tubs (they also love hair & all the other stuff that sloughs off our bodies. Eeew! Yuck! I know!) Some people are convinced that these are a separate "species" called "Drain Flies". Really? I think they are simply Fruit Flies living in the drains. Period. But the point is you MUST get rid of THOSE also. I've had varying degrees of success with Baking Soda. Baking Soda & WHITE Vinegar. Bleach. All allowed to soak with hot water in the S drains below all sinks & tubs simultaneously with the stoppers closed - & more in the sink/tub to flush it down (well dribble down cause all of mine slowly leak). They also make special sprays etc for Drain Flies that you can buy here on Amazon. But I digress...Another brand of Fruit Fly Trap is Beapo - it's 6 pack of traps are small & clear - BUT they do not spill (ever) & flies cannot escape. The Bait it comes with is worthless - use the Cider. If you need/want a semi-attractive and easily cleanable & re-useable trap - and don't mind that it's semi-transparent, then this is your trap. If you want one that's more attractive (but harder to clean) then get the Terro. If you need one that absolutely will never spill (& can deal with it being 100% see-thru & nearly impossible to clean/re-use) then the Beapo might be for you (but don't use their Bait - try one with their Bait & one with the Apple Cider Vinegar & you'll know which one works). If this review was helpful to you click the button. amazing, amazing
amazing, amazing, amazing. I won the fruit fly war at my house. It all came from one forgotten banana. I never thought I'd be comfy in my house again, or not swatting at them. It took 3 traps but they are all gone. It probably would have taken 2 but one trap was accidentally knocked over. It was pretty disgustingly full anyway. At first I thought it was useless but by the 2nd/3rd day I started seeing the bottom go black and blacker. I chose this over other products I researched that had good reviews because it's a Raid product. Raid has never failed me with any of the sprays I've ever used. They really are bug exterminating experts. So I trusted this job to Raid as well and it did not fail.

This item did not attract fruit flies.
For several years I have purchased the Terro brand fruit fly traps. I started purchasing those when I found it just a lot of trouble to make my own. I had been very pleased with with them and when I went to reorder they were unavailable. So I decided to try the raid fruit fly trap that was available as an add-on item. I found setup easy and the cute apple shape look nice in my kitchen. However, I found it had to be quickly refilled. I now find after two refills and several weeks it has not attracted one single fruit fly! I measured properly and feel that I followed instructions. Since I see fruit flies flying around I know there are some available. They just are not attracted to this particular fruit fly trap. I have now reordered theTerro brand.

Fantastic, but wait 2 or 3 days before getting disappointed
Worked amazingly well, the only downside is that I had to empty the entire thing which meant I ended up having to make my own lure for it out of syrup and warm soapy water. Would love a way to buy bait/lure for these so I can continue to reuse them.I bought 2 initially then bought 4 more once I realized how effective they are. I was very concerned at first because the first 24 hours or so caught at most maybe 3 or 4 flies. I ignored them completely for a couple of days and came back to find easily 30 or 40 flies in each trap. Going to place them all around my home on a permanent basis now so I can avoid any fly issues in the future.

It works, but requires patience
I had the same experience as the reviewer named HD (from August 2017). I put the trap next to the fruit basket. After one week, there was one fruit fly. I was annoyed thinking I had spent 6$ to kill one bug! I didn't throw it away for some reason (silent protest for feeling like I had been ripped off?) and after eight more days or so, there were at least 20 or 30 in there (a regular house fly also managed to get in).The only reason I am giving it 3 stars instead of 4 (I rarely rate something a 5) is because $6 still seems steep for a one time use. More "food" could have been included for that price!

The fruitflies can get back out
I got this fruit fly trap, along with a few other brands/types, after I was out of town for a while and returned to find a fruit fly problem. I set up the traps in different areas of my kitchen, and this one was a total dud. In addition to being oddly complicated to set up (involves dissolving the little packet of lure in hot water and adding dish soap), the fruit flies are able to fly in, get to the lure, and then fly back out. That defeats the whole purpose of a trap. I watched a little fly go in, get his snack, and then crawl right back out and go on his way. This is not functional as a trap, it is just fruit fly food. Go with another one, I had success with the traps made by Beapco and Terro.

It Dried Out
I am not even sure if it killed anything. I had other fly traps as well as this one. I set this one out when I noticed my fruit fly situation was gearing up for a comeback. I put this out and left it for about a week, when I came back there were no fruitflies in the trap and the liquid was nearly gone. But my other traps were producing better results.

Save your money.
You would have better luck using chopsticks to catch fruit flys then this thing.Throw some wine and fruit in a cup cover with plastic wrap poke a few holes. Far more effective.
