Garden elf on a shelf until it wasn’t.
Update: It stopped turning on at month 7. The company ignores requests for the one year warranty. The pin connectors where the light panel attaches are flimsy and it stopped turning on.Update: it’s growing gangbusters now!I prefer the black unit with 14-15 plant sites. I get better and faster results with it by far, though I planted it later than the smaller white unit.Smaller white unit - watch for ‘damping off disease’ I noticed 2 sites with a fuzzy grey film on the seeds in it. Stunted. I had to sterilize new sponges and transplant a few that made it, like surgery - cutting new sponges down the center and gently removing the few that survived. Then setting the new transplants with a light blocking cuff. Tossed the funky sponges, reduce water and increase airflow. All AFTER cleaning the unit’s reservoir thoroughly and the insert cages to remove algae and mildew. It came from the seed packets or on the grow sponges. I think I’ll microwave those when they’re wet and cool them before planting in future? A heat mat, around 75°F is below the unit now and I removed the humidity caps. That all helped. So did switching to Humbolt’s Secret nutrients. What I luv about the black WiFi unit:It’s easy and magical.Super small footprint and seriously high telescopic full spectrum light, plus red and blue diodes in 2 modes: leafy and flowering, a whopping 14-15 plant sites depending on whether you insert the water level indicator. A deeper 6.5 water/nutrient well for a wider range of plants. Digital readout control panel with manual controls, light blocking caps to retard algae from unplanted sites. The germination caps are domed higher to allow more growth under them with increased humidity. Water resistant seed stickers and labels and handy stakes with placement holes. The pump is ultra quiet. Neighboring plants are super crushing on the grow light panel being near them. At germination phase, I telescoped it far up and away, so it cascades a wider area - but I’ll lower it when seedlings are ready. This is so fun! What is swell, but could use improvement: the plant sites are many, but small - smaller than the smaller, more affordable unit without WiFi, but that one is algae prone. The adjustable height and spectrum for ‘flowering’ would accommodate small variety/determinant tomatoes, and peppers, but at that full height, there’d be little room for more than 1-3 max? I’ll see what’s achievable with pruning, or possibly using it as a nursery, then transferring to Kratky method, or a DWC unit with grow lights. The stakes included are rather short considering the height capabilities and the holes for them allow a little light into the reservoir. The wifi is there, but requires 2.4 connection - which, also times out before it pairs. I can’t get that operational (yet). Therefore… it has a temperature gauge, but I heat it for germination temp with a seedling heat mat (yo it’s Winter, brr). The temp reads 77°F (or equivalent Celsius), but instant read thermometer reads 10° below that because the thermometer is near the bottom and not the water temp. Very small grow sponges - but, they’re working. I opted to snip one seed divot larger to accommodate a nasturtium seed - one giant seed. No big deal - seeds vary a lot in size and it’s ample for most.Overall this is a great value with a LOT of features on offer. Better than competitors at a value price. They’re attractive units with small footprint for a bounty they are capable of growing. Customer service is responsive. I’m enjoying this and the smaller unit tremendously. It’s Day 1 and 5 on germination as I write this (a challenge for beginners indoors in Winter, but I’ll keep you posted and easy arugula is sure to sprout depending on your seed supplier).. I also think this is an excellent gardening trainer for kids. Squee.Great buy during promotions. I think you’ll want extra sponges going forward?Welcome to the future and urban indoor farming!Seasons Saladings!

Nice unit
This is a nice unit that has some real nice features such as led display, wifi app, and adjustable settings. The tank is not the easiest to remove an clean, but overall it is a good unit so far for the price

BEST THING EVER!!
I absolutely LOVE this! Never have I ever had so much luck with my seeds! Planted ALL of these seeds on 13 Jan 2023-making this review on 9 Feb 2023...you can see how amazingly they are growing. So much so on my tomato plant, I had to transfer it to a pot with soil! The picture of the roots is 3 weeks of growth! Yes...3 weeks!!! I am planning on buying another one of these to help me start more seeds for my outside garden too bc I don't have enough room with this. Might even get the stand so I can stack them together!! Get one-you're gonna love it!!

Fun product
The only thing I was disappointed with is that the picture is misleading, it’s a lot smaller than the picture makes it seem. Read the demotions. But overall I really enjoy it.

Good setup. Better instructions needed.
wish the instructions were more detailed about water and when to change or what plant days mean. System is working nicely.
