Where has this been my entire life?
I absolutely adore this device! When I ordered this I figured it would be handy but relatively niche. I'm happy to report that I was wrong! This thing has a ton of uses. The most basic measuring function is fast and accurate. You press the measure button to paint your target. When the red laser is in position you press the button again to take a measurement. What's particularly handy is if you press and hold it goes into continuous mode. Which is particularly great for quick and dirty measurements and larger indoor spaces and when taking readings outside. There's a whole bunch of specialty functions. The interface for these is intuitive and easy to use. Most of them are for determining volume but two of them use the Pythagorean theorem. I cannot overstate how handy a function this is. If you have an object in the distance that you can't easily get to but you wanted to determine how long it is you can use this function to paint one side and then the other and it will give you an approximate measurement. As long as you don't move around too much the readings are pretty close to what they really are. There's also a cool function that lets you add measurements together an unlimited amount of time. Plus memory for your last 30 readings to refer back to. Another appreciated feature is the ability to change whether or not the front or back of the unit is used in the readings. Out the front is good for hand usage from the back is best when lining it up on a surface.Another particular standout feature is the unit of measure selection. Particularly if you primarily use imperial units. It supports meters, feet, inches, and feet and inches. Meters and feet are decimal reading. Inches and feet and inches incorporate fractions so if something's 8 feet, 2 inches and 3/16. It will read 8' 2" 3/16. If you wind up using the wrong unit changing to the one you need is a quick button press away and it will automatically convert your previous readings. It's all very handy and intuitive. As much as I adore this unit it isn't without some issues. The included wrist strap is very hard to thread through. Outside of luck the only way to get it on is to disassemble the unit. Something that I decided not to do. One that particularly annoys me is the battery compartment lid. It's securely on but it does rattle so I would recommend you tape it down. It comes with a soft bag to store the unit in. Something that's cost effective but not necessarily practical. A small rigid case would have been preferred and would have been my opinion worth a little added price. But those issues aren't enough for me to deduct a star rating. It's just something to be aware of. Overall this is a great unit that has a lot of utility.

Excellent laser measure with caveats
This is an excellent tool to measure distance, area, volume, and height (2 ways using Pythagorean method). I have used several of these and this is the easiest to understand and use. For simple distances you press the MEAS button once to turn on the laser and a second time to take the reading. Repeat as necessary. For the other measures a figure indicates what you are measuring and a blinking line tells you which measurement to take. You can add and subtract pieces that you measure and it saves measurements. You can turn on continuous measurement and it shows the current value as well as the max and min. There are even 2 built-in levels which are a great help! You can easily extend your warranty to 2 years which indicates the company believes in their product. You can measure from the front or back of the unit, select your units of measure, and it will remember the settings for next time. There are 7 buttons, all on top which is great, some unfortunately do double duty, but they are fairly clearly marked. The unit is powered by 2 AAA batteries. I prefer this to the rechargeable USB batteries for a tool like this. Take them out when you're done (for me that may be months as I just DIY) and have a spare pair on hand. Accuracy is always a question with this kind of device. Fortunately the manufacturer tells you to take a known measurement before using it to see how accurate it is under today's conditions. Very good idea! Only 2 negatives for this device and one can be solved. That is, it comes with an absolutely essential wrist strap. Since most of us only have 2 hands this will fall out of your hand eventually and you will need the strap. The problem is that you can't attach the strap to the device unless you remove the 4 screws that hold the face of the unit to the base. Not good but problem solved. The other difficulty is that it comes with a soft pouch. Tools and soft are a bad combination. It really needs a hard case (that can hold the directions and spare batteries too). For now I am using the cardboard box it came in. Hopefully I will find a suitable plastic, wood, or metal box soon. In conclusion, I have several laser measures and this will be my go to one.

Hands down my favorite tool ever!
This little device is extremely helpful for those of us that read a tape measure stating, " 9 and 3 lines past the 1st bold line" or something similar. Unless you work and read a tape measure on a daily basis, it's difficult to instantly read off the exact whole number and fraction instantly. That is exactly why this is my new tape measure and so much more. You must familiarize yourself with this tool's functions and the buttons that perform those tasks. Since it saves your most recent unit of measurement used when powered off and even if batteries die, it's ready each time you pick it up. After measuring the rooms and floors in my home for their accuracy, I was operating with ease and efficiency. Not only is this tool accurate, but it's spot on giving the whole # and the fraction when using inches. The selection of measuring from the front or the rear of the device is an option. It also measures in meters, feet, and inches. Power it on, and place the tool with the starting point of measurement lined up with the starting point of the subject to be measured with the laser hitting the endpoint. Immediately, your results appear after pressing enter. The most recent 30 measurements are stored in history even if it experiences battery failure. You can find the area and volume of any object just by plugging in the length, width, and height. Continuous measuring, two and three-point Pythagorean method, and simple addition/subtraction can be performed by this handy device. The laser can be activated at any time with the press of a button in the event it timed out. When measuring, it's important that nothing constricts the laser beam. Always make certain the end of the beam is positioned on the exact end of the object being measured. This tool requires 2-AAA batteries in order for it to power on and function. After getting familiar with this tool and its functions, I put it to the ultimate test. I have been working on some crown molding for quite some time now. The problem has always been due to not measuring correctly. In the past, I would get frustrated and decide to leave it and come back to it. This time I had a different ending. I actually completed the crown molding. I was elated at the successful ending. I absolutely recommend this tool.

OMG THEY LOVE IMPERIAL! THE ONLY ONES IN THE WORLD!!
Quick Question: Can you tell me the number of feet, inches, and eights of an inch for 5.627 ft? How about 3.921 ft? We'll all use our stupid measurement system and multiply .627 or .921 times 12 inches and get some useless number with a whole number of inches but some oddball leftover number.Every laser measurer I've used in the past does fine with Metric. OK, no big difference there, this one does Metric too. But when it comes to imperial measurements they give you the headaches like my prior examples. This one NAILS IT. You can choose the measurement option and get a real 10' 6" and 1/8" for example. I LOVE IT, no more conversion headaches, real measurements in feet, inches, and eighths if needed. AWESOME!!!!!!! I mean I'm really excited when designers LISTEN to their customers. This is AWE SOME!!!This laser measurer must have heard that complaint and they hit a home run, no, a GRAND SLAM in their use and reporting of Imperial measures.I know the root of the problem is our historic non-base-10 measurement system but let's be real, the USA isn't getting off our Imperial system and we'll immediately deport any politicians who even SUGGEST using Metric over to somewhere in rural Eastern Europe. But rest assured ex-US politician expat now in Europe, you can redeem yourself with a measurement laser like this that actually SUPPORTS imperial measurements well. Hand out hundreds of these to your constituents and they'll see you actually do love the Imperial system.Don't get into a conversion headache. This measurer is cool and I'd say it's great for realtors b/c there's even area calculations I haven't played with. Don't get the other one, GET THIS ONE if you live in the USA. While I don't always use the Imperial system, when I do I use a measurement system like this!
