EEPROM Routing USB Programmer CH341A Writer LCD Flash for 25 SPI Series 24

Used this to successfully flash two different Winbond BIOS chips after first modifying the BIOSes with UBU to include the latest Intel CPU microcode. This meant I could update two expensive dual-Xeon motherboards that ASUS had abandoned to Spectre and Meltdown.The shipped product is hardware only with no software or instructions. If you're already running Linux or can install it on a spare PC (I used Ubuntu) then just install flashrom (search to find the download site, it's pretty obvious) and you're away. Use "sudo flashrom -p ch341a_spi" to access the USB programmer and confirm it can read your chip, then check the help for the actual flash programming commands. For programming, the jumper needs to be across pins 1+2 which is how it was sent to me.If you can't use Linux there are Windows and Mac drivers at the chip manufacturer's (WCH) Chinese language web site. There is also a blog called 'One Transistor' where the author did some research on this programmer and linked useful files from WCH's web site with English explanations of what they're for. The video mentioned in one of the other reviews is also helpful if somewhat long-winded.

I had a hard time getting software to work on Windows with this device. Plugged it into my Linux laptop and used flashrom instead. Works perfectly

Had to hack mine, the CH341 chip is supplied with 5v from USB. This makes the data lines output 5V when communicating with the chips you use with it. It has an onboard 3.3v, which supplies power to the chips you're working with though, so you just have to do a bypass and two wires which requires some micro soldering.

In conjunction with WINGONEER SOIC8 SOP8 Test Clip For EEPROM..., I recovered my $2,000 27" touchscreen i7 PC using this, after DELL and Microsoft Windows 10 managed to kill it, without claiming responsibity for it. I mean kill it - just black screen without any BIOS access. I have also recovered two ASUS touchscreen high spec laptops for my children after Windows 10 upgrade disasters.

This EEPROM programmer worked perfectly and let me recover my car radio code after a battery fault!

Has an issue with 5v comm lines that should really be remedied and reduced to 3.3v before you use it.It worked for me regardless because I knew the chip could handle it.Still great value and the mod guide is all over YouTube.

The price is good but the item comes with zero information and I've spent a morning trying to find drivers and software that can use it, it may well work but the silk screen is in chinese so I've no idea what jumper settings are correct unless I trawl through youtube videos and hope that the ones which *look a bit like* this one are correct. Ich hatte über den integrierten BIOS Updater mein ASUS Motherboard abgeschossen, der Rechner bootete nicht mehr. Im Internet Hinweise auf den Flasher angelesen und bestellt. Trotz erhöhtem Paketaufkommens vor Weihnachten super schnelle Lieferung und das Beste natürlich, externes flashen mit dem Programmer ging einfach und zuverlässig, Rechner läuft wieder einwandfrei. Für den Preis unschlagbar, Software/Treiber habe mich mir aus den Netz organisiert, einfach nach CH341A suchen.Bitte beachten: Programmiert man das BIOS extern, kann es sein, dass die MAC Adresse "weg ist", da diese ebenfalls im BIOS Speicher abgelegt ist (path-through). Ist dies der Fall muss die MAC Adresse vom Aufkleber des Mobos abgelesen werden und über ein weiteres Tool (+USB DOS Bootstick) wieder aufgefrischt werden. Dies muss gemacht werden, falls der Rechner nach externem programmieren des BIOS sich nicht mehr mit dem Teeret verbindet = ungültige MAC-Adresse hat. Wie in anderen Bewertungen gesagt: Der Aufdruck / Orientierung auf der Baugruppe ist OK, die in der SW einfach ignorieren da falsch herum. Im Übrigen wird der Speicher mit 3.3 Volt versorgt, hatte ich extra nachgemessen. Warum andere hier von 5 Volt reden, kann ich nicht nachvollziehen oder bestätigen. Die Steuerleitung der Speicherchips sind 5 Volt compliant. Also nur Mut, wird schon klappen, viel Erfolg. Für mein M5A78-L/USB Asus gibt es ein Tool DMI236.exe zur Programmierung der MAC-Adresse , auch hier hilft das Netz weiter.

Works great.. once I downloaded and installed the driver and eeprom software, I used it to flash a couple of bios chips that had been fubared from an previous failed attempt at a bios update - it went as smooth as can be.. apparently it can also use the onboard header pins for gpio communication, but I haven't attempted it yet..

Es un gran producto para su precio, soldaduras muy limpias en el pcb y muy buenos acabados. La calidad es muy importante en estos programadores, a pesar de que los había mucho mas baratos, he preferido optar por este por su calidad de construcción. Lo necesitaba para para reprogramar una eprom de la BIOS de una placa Asus B75 que no arrancaba, el resultado es que la placa vuelve a funcionar sin problema y con un coste muy pequeño. El producto me ha llegado sellado en una bolsa antiestática y acompañado de accesorios bastante útiles dependiendo del tipo de memoria que se use, eso siempre garantiza que no sufra daños durante el transporte.

Da premettere che ho acquistato questo programmatore per gestire un determinato chip, ma alla fine, mi sono trovato per le mani un hardware flessibile e con funzioni in piu' (si' una volta tanto qualcosa in piu' che in meno) che non sono assolutamente descritte nel testo del prodotto (questo e' un male). Le voglio aggiungere io in modo da poter essere utile anche per chi l'acquistasse in futuro. Per la cifra di 9,50 Eur spedito tale hardware fa piu' che il suo dovere e riesce a coprire, almeno per me, una serie di esigenze tutto in un'unica soluzione. Per quanto riguarda il software, i driver ed i manuali basta fare una ricerca su google per reperire il tutto.Dale mie prove vi posso dire che per :- Windows 10 - E' consigliato l'utilizzo della versione 1.29 del software per gestire il programmatore- Windows XP / 2000 / 7 e 8 - E' consigliato l'utilizzo della versione 1.30 del software per gestire il programmatoreNon e' un'errore di battitura, su Windows 10 pare sia consigliata la versione 1.29 del software. Anche l'1.30 funziona ma ho avuto alcuni problemi durante la verifica del contenuto del chip ed ho trovato anche su internet persone che hanno segnalato questa cosa.Oltre alla funzioni di "cartellino" il programmatore, cosa che poi non e' scritto, funziona anche da convertitore TTL usb / seriale. Tutto questo modificando l'unico jumper presente sulla basetta (il prodotto arriva in modalita' programmatore) :Posizione 1-2 --> Programmatore (Bisogna installare un driver a parte e nella lista hardware lo vedrete come una interfaccia)Posizione 2-3 --> TTL usb / seriale (Bisogna installare un driver a parte e nella lista hardware lo vedrete come una porta seriale in piu')Per chi avesse poca dismetichezza con la seconda modalita', un convertitore TTL seriale (opportuamente connesso), ci permette di fare il flash e/o il recupero / gestione di router / console / modem / ESP8266 ecc ecc ecc. In tale modalita' c'e' sia il 3,3 Volt (piu' usato) che il 5,0 Volt (molto meno usato). Tutto questo naturalmente non era assolutamente mensionato nella descrizione dell'articolo. Peccato, sarebbe d'aggiungerlo per dare piu' visibilita' all'articolo, che a parer mio, merita veramenten tanto. E' ovvio che per usufruire di tale funzione non dovrete utilizzare il software 1.29 o 1.30 ma i putty / winscp ecc.Passando ad un'ispezione piu' approfondita del programmatore, nella parte superiore ci sono due led, uno che indica l'alimentazione ed uno che indica il passaggio dei dati. Un connettore dove inserire i chip (divisi per serie 24 e serie 25 con tanto di disegno). Ai lati ci sono tutta una serie di pin, che possono essere collegati comodamente con gli stessi cavi che si utilizzano per interfacciare il raspberry / arduino ai vari sensori. Per fortuna la descrizione di tali pin e' incisa nella parte inferiore del programmatore in modo d'evitare qualsiasi problema. Come si puo' ben notare il programmatore ha tutta una serie di contatti a "vista" quindi occhio a quando operate a non far cadere niente sopra rischiate magari un corto. Inclusa nella confezione c'e' una anche una basetta con dei pin per connettere dei chip piu' piccolo (tipo bios dei computer). Tale basetta a parte con tali connettori sono da saldare e non pre-assemblati.Passando alla parte software, l'utility che gestisce la programmazione dei chip e' molto intuitivo e c'e' poco da capire (tutto in inglese). Ci sono le classiche funzioni di lettura / scrittura / cancellazione / controllo se il chip e' vuoto / comparazione fra un file e il contenuto del chip. In basso a destra ci sara' una comoda scritta che indichera' se il programmatore e' collegato e riconosciuto in modo corretto dal vostro computer. C'e' anche il tasto dell'auto-detect del chip, nel caso non siate pratici o magari e' stata cancellata la scritta sopra il chip, ma purtroppo (almeno nel mio caso) non ha funzionato portando il programma ogni volta in un loop di finestre infinito. In ogni caso si puo' selezionare manualmente la marca / modello chip quindi poco male (alla fine della recensione troverete una lista dei chip supportati).Personalmente ho effettuato un test di lettura / scrittura su un chip marca MicroChip modello MIC24LC256. Tutto effettuato con successo e senza neanche un problema. Da segnalare un'interessante funzione che se inserite il chip storto, al momento del serraggio della morsa che tiene fermo quest'ultimo, il programmatore si auto-esclude e non sara' piu' visualizzato nel programma. Questa cosa e' ottima in modo d'evitare chip bruciati / problemi al nostro hardware.In definitiva sono molto soddisfatto di quest'acquisto e per la cifra come indicata sopra vale veramente la spesa. Se devo trovare proprio qualcosa di negativo, se proprio lo vogliamo trovare, i processi di lettura / scrittura sono per le grandezze dei chip in questione, veramente molto lenti. Per il modello con il quale ho fatto la prova (Marca MicroChip / Modello MIC24LC256) che produce un file di 32KB ci ha messo quasi 5 secondi. Lo so non e' tanto pero' se pensate di gestire un chip piu' grande e/o serializzando la scrittura (cioe' dovete scrivere lo stesso file su 100 chip) il discorso si allunga ed anche di molto.
