MerrellMen's Moab 3 Mid GTX Hiking Shoe

Sizing runs small
Submitting a return. For info, these run small, and the men's size seems to be the same as the women's in this shoe - I ordered UK7 assuming it would be more like a women's 7.5/8 (as it is for other brands) giving that extra space that you need in hiking boots, but it was a small UK7 (probably more like a women's UK6.5). Besides my toes hitting the end of the shoe, these were super comfy straight out of the box...so much so I was considering how much I really needed my toenails... But alas, I'm sending back. For extra sizing info, I tried on a different pair of Merrell's boots earlier in the week - women's UK8 and they were way too big. So even if you have other Merrell's, dont assume the sizing will be the same here.

Buy 1/2 size up
I've worn Moabs in one form or another for 15 years. The Moab 3 is slightly narrower and smaller than Moab 2. I have Moab 3 shoes in same size as my last Moab 2, and they are very slightly tight. I bought a 1/2 size up in the boot and that fits perfectly, and is super comfortable.I bought these as I'd tried expensive Scarpa boots that I just didn't get on with, these are great, and although won't last as long as the more expensive Scarpa's I can buy 2 or 3 pairs to every pair of Scarpa boots as the merrels are always discounted. 🙂

MOAB fan
This is my second pair (same size, UK9) of Merrell MOABs, the first being the MOAB2 which has walked the SW Coast path in its entirety, and they never let me down, continue to be comfortable and waterproof. The bumper strip at the toe has cracked on both shoes and both soles are showing signs of wear. I'm hoping that this latest version is made to the same standards. My first impressions are that they fit more snugly than the MOAB2, including the feeling that the toebox is not as roomy. My only complaint is that the shoes have obviously been worn before as they have dried grass and a piece of grit in the soles, but although a black Friday deal, were advertised as new. There are no scuff marks, and I'll keep them (as I suspect I wouldn't get them at that price again!). Can't wait to get on a new trail with them!

Felt spot-on straight out of the box
I've worn to failure quite a few pairs of hiking boots. Berghaus, Scarpa and Brasher pairs lasted the longest (the last, though sturdy, did feel like a pair of housebricks on my feet sometimes). As I'm in my seventh decade now I fancied a light but rugged boot and after a bit of research chose these. They arrived within a day (today) as promised. The fit is comfortable. I take a UK 9 and, unlike other reviewers, didn't need to go up a size. My left foot is slightly smaller than my right one but these boots accommodated the difference without any problem. I've just got back from a 2.5 mile road test at a brisk pace to check for any hot spots or pinch points and I'm happy to report no discomfort at all. They are as comfortable on as a light pair of NIkes I used to have which were little more than trainers but there's a much more reassuring, solid, 'rubber on the road' feel to these despite their light weight. First impression is very positive. I'm hoping to update this review over time as I start to use them in, if not anger, then a little bit of vigour.

Well worth th money
water proof, comfortable to wear long lasting if treated properly, This is the second pair of Merrils I have bought, only bought these because I spilt oil on my other pair. So first time I have bought boots online from this seller, would certainly buy again. Received boots before delivery date well packaged & packaging undamaged, these boots are sold in half sizes which makes for a better fit.

LEAKS, first time in wet conditions
I've worn these boots in very gradually since I bought them 2 months ago, only walking them on pavements or roads. Today I did a 2 mile field walk through wet grass, wet mud and on gravel tracks. When I returned home all the toes on my right sock were totally soaked through. So much for the waterproof inner that these boots (are supposed to) feature.Of course, the return window has closed but I did have an expectation that boots from this brand would at least be waterproof from the start.Next time, a different brand, Not Amazon and from a reputable high street trader.
