You can find this size mat a couple of pounds cheaper, but you will find they are not as thick. These are 3/8", the cheaper ones are 5/16". I have used both, and these are stronger, less 'dusty' and very noticebly better insulation .I use them (with different sized centres cut out to take different sized cooking pots and pans) on our AGA hot plates to reduce heat loss and running costs when cooking on the top plates. With the mat in place, I can put my hand on the mat while cooking, whilst with the insulating aga lids down, I would burn my hand on the lid. I reckon I loose less heat when cooking on the right sized mat than when not using the hot plates and the lids are down. I'm confident they are great for brazing and soldering as well!

It's expensive but it does work well and keeps fire and high temperature away.

I needed this heat resistant board as I was using a small gas torch to repair the metal frame of my glasses it deflects the heat well and the underside remained cool it was bigger than I imagined but perfect to work on and I will find many uses for it in the future as I have to do any work with a small gas torch in my kitchen so need this to protect my worktop as I have no outside workshop so very pleased I was able to find this on Amazon

I use this product to protect the bench when doing my blowtorch enamelling. Good size, does the job.

Does the job

I might be a little extra, but I just don’t like the fact that has uneven edges and one of the corners look to be dented but otherwise it’s good. It’s alright.
