DeSantis Desantis Die Hard Ankle Rig

I have used Galco ankle holsters for years. I still like them but this is my first DeSantis and I have found it to be superior. I have large ankles and the strap is more secure and more comfortable. The holster is double walled which I really appreciate. It is made here- in the USA and I appreciate that--And it is 50% less in cost to the compatible i.e. Galco model. If you are looking at cheaper ones--------don't. You get what you pay for and this is an excellent value.

Great holster! Glock 42 securely fits under the thumb snap and conceals great! I purchased this for mainly I wear slacks with a tucked in shirt, and I'm unable to conceal the gun on my hip.

Holster fits good comfortable to wear

I compared this holster to the Desantis Apache Ankle Holster. The Apache wins hands down. Why? A few reasons. 1. The Die Hard out of the package cut my leg up to the point where I was bleeding (my sock was underneath holster to provide support, but holster was around bare leg, thus the point the sheepskin lining). There is at least one or more spots on this holster that is sharp. So, like I did to the Apache, I taped up some of the areas that I thought were sharp and tried wearing it again. No blood this time, but still something was bothering my leg (I felt that the stitching of the sheepskin was very rough and not smooth). 2. The Die Hard has a neoprene wrap that wraps around your leg and has a lot of give to it; it is a very stretchy material. This was not good as the gun was a bit floppy when I walked. Compare this to the Apache Holster which does not have a neoprene-like material, but rather a stronger cordura/nylon type material that is very strong and does not stretch nearly as much.Now the only positive that the Die Hard has over the Apache is the leather holster itself. You can see my review of the Apache on the Apache product page, but in a nutshell the Apache's holster is a nylon/cordura type of material with a super strong snap enclosure. There is no padding, and I found it to be a bit abrasive to the gun's finish. This Die Hard holster has a beautiful leather holster that fits the G42 perfectly and is smooth inside.So to sum up, I can't understand for the life of me, why Desantis would attach a cheap neoprene sleeve to a beautiful leather holster! They should use the Apache's material with the Die Hard holster as well. So, go for the Apache if you are choosing between these two Desantis holsters. The Apache holds the gun firmly and doesn't bounce around and doesn't cut up your bare leg.

Comfortable and durable

Well I don't dislike like this but I am not a huge fan either. The item is hooked by velcro only, which has two negatives in and of it self. The first being waer and tear on velcro makes it work less and less. The second being it is very hard to get it nice and tight like needed. I paticularly sweat a bit wear I put this holster and it cauess a bit of an itch/redness within a 12 hour day. My fraw time is around 3 seconds so this is my second carried weapon I have on me at any time. A better design would have some breathability, and some kind of hook and pull to tight system. An addition would be a mag slot on the opposite side as well, there is room but Desantis wants more money for a second ankle strap. Also the backing of the holster portion is self looks cheap and looks unfinished. The positive is that the glock 42 does fit in this holster very well, concealed nicel, doing the job. So end story this product is ok and I really can't find another one for sale. Maybe I should make one that works a lot better my self. There should also be an extension for those who have bigger ankels and those who want to attach to their boots. I really think $55 should buy a little more. For those who have the mag extension on their glock 42, or other hand gun, you will not have any problem using this holster.

This is the finest ankle rig I’ve ever used. It works much better with the accessory calf strap made by DeSantis. I’ve used the DeSantis line for many years as a cop for concealment and quality.
