Neither tapered nor truly black. But rustic and non drip!
These are white candles coated in a thin layer of black wax and they're straight!They look hand made as their kind of knobly and imperfect which I like, but if you looking for an elegant candle these are not for you.They came loose in a couple of jiffy bags not in a box as pictured so I'm glad there were none broken.I'll update when I've set light to them.I do actually like them, they're just not what I was expecting going by the listing.*Update!Theses are the best candles I have ever used. Slow burners, and not a single drip from any of them.

Great long lasting bright candles
Love these candles! They are pure black and the flame is huge! 1 candle can light a whole room, I order them every time I run out, they last a long time as well!

Not at all what I expected
This is a white candle with a black coating, not really a black candle at all.No indication of its true nature in the product description.
