The destructive effects of global warming cause unimaginable devastation and panic worldwide. The human race finds itself contemplating the dawn of a new ice age in this epic disaster staring Richard Roxburgh, Frances O'Connor, Claire Forlani, Ben Cross, Simon Callow, Patrick Bergin with Stephen Moyer and Sam Neill. It is 2020. Global warming has turned the regions of Southern Europe to desert and the Arctic polar ice cap is disappearing rapidly. There is a refugee crisis on an unprecedented scale as populations migrate north. Energy companies are turning to increasingly dangerous methods to extract what little oil is left on Earth. ICE confronts a wholly terrifying and plausible natural disaster of epic proportions, which sets the world at the mercy of the elements that consume it. This uncompromising production sees a planet on the brink of annihilation, unleashing an apocalypse with an intensity and magnitude that audiences will never forget.

Ice
This was a very good eye opener for what could happen with the constant oil drilling. We don't need oil for energy anymore, this has been proven. And to prevent any of this coming true we should get those rich idiots to listen and use wind and water power.Regardless of it not being an A+ film with all the frigging special effects, it still packs a great message of the dangers of taking too much from the earth, because it will fight back.

British 'The Day After Tomorrow' on a budget
Ice is a TV miniseries set in 2020 when global warming effects are severe, causing continents to become deserts. Energy reserves are low and drilling for oil commences in the Arctic with devastating results. If you've seen 'The Day After Tomorrow' you'll largely know the plot of this mini series. A disgraced scientist finds his predictions are coming true, then the race is on for him to be reunited with his family. But instead of trekking to New York, he needs to get to London. There is a good cast involved in this production, but the problems arise with a small budget, dull script and a run time which is far too long. Although we get to know bits and pieces about the characters, it's really all superficial and it takes the entire first section of the film (87 minutes) to get through this. The action commences at the beginning of the second section but it's not particularly effective due to the low-rent special effects and the lack of scale of the disaster that is conveyed (or not conveyed) to the audience. The disk is very basic and you can really only start the film - there is no option to select the first or second part and no indication when the first half has completed. This one is only for those that love disaster films. 2.5 stars.

Just DON'T!
Absolutely dreadful waste of time. "We must evacuate the UK!" Piffle - you can't. "Twenty feet of snow have fallen since we flew from Greenland". No, they didn't - impossible. "The Gulf Stream will shut down rendering the UK uninhabitable!" No, it won't. It'll just make the UK like Norway, and render Norway uninhabitable.Aside from the complete lack of science being extremely irritating, the mess of over and under-acting is just a rotten cherry on this turd of a mini-series. If you do watch it, you only have yourself to blame.

Sloppy
Too many careless and thoughtless errors. Supposedly way below freezing temperatures, arctic conditions, yet the characters are out and about, some without coats, most without gloves, or thick parkas, goggles to protect their eyes and head coverings. In those conditions not an inch of skin would be exposed. even frostbitten fingers appear to function effortlessly, certainly enough to pilot helicopters and planes. The fingers were affected enough to appear black or very dark blue which usually indicates further damage beneath the skin to tendons, muscles, nerves and bones. This is known as deep frostbite and requires urgent medical attention - but no, a cursory examination, bit of salve and all is well. The mother in detention is found lying in fairly thin garments in a room open to the elements and below freezing temperatures but does not suffer hypothermia and a coat casually cast around her shoulders appears to warm her instantly. The lad with her only has a shirt on, but again, magically survives these apocalyptic temperatures without harm. No one seems to care enough about this film to make an effort to make it plausible.
