Lonely Planet Croatia (Travel Guide)

This is a great guide, as most of the Lonely Planet guides are. However, if you are planning on only visiting a small part of Croatia, then this isnt the guide for you. I generally hire a car and travel around when I'm on holiday, but in Croatia the time taken to travel from one area to another because of the road systems just wasn't practical to see much of the country. Therefore, it would have been better for me to have a guide of Istria, which goes into more detailed about that specific area, than having this book which just gives a general overview of the whole country.

I didn't expect to get such an in-depth guide to Croatia, but this book is packed full of information on literally everything. We took a road trip through the country last year using this book as a guide, and while my partner was driving, I was reading about Croatia's history, people, and culture. We didn't have time to see all the things we wanted, as this book has too many things for even a full time resident of the country to see, but at least there is a wide range of things to choose from. There are various categories in the book, like food and drink, entertainment and nature. It is also divided into provinces, and then into cities, and there are maps everywhere in it to help aid your search and to direct you.All-in-all quite handy!

This is without doubt the worst guidebook I have ever used! Lacks detail, very little for those on a budget, layout is confusing and illogical. I’ve been traveling with lonely planet guides for the last 15 years...unusually, this one is not fit for purpose! Avoid.

Used on a group holiday to Split. Gave some brilliant recommendations (particularly the signature breakfast dish at Brasserie on 7). Needed a bit more info on Krka NP, particularly when best to go so you can swim in it. Plan to use it again when I get round to visiting Zagreb, Istria, Plitvice Lakes, and Dubrovnik.

Exploring Croatia for the first time was a lovely adventure with this handy guide. It delivered on so many fronts to plan the itinerary and even while we were on the trip.
