The Colossal Book of Mathematics

This is full of Martin Gardner at his best. An enormous range of mathematical topics and each one (that I have so far read) dealt with clearly from simple origins through to noting the existing chalenges and areas still to be explored. It is large collection of some of the works of a prolific writer of recreational mathematics.

A great fat book which I gave to two people this Christmas. It is more than a book of puzzles. It explores the concepts behind the puzzles which makes it a more benign read!
