One of the best family dramas!
I loved this so much I watched it twice. Just finished binging it a second time and it was as excruciating to live through again. This is an incredibly acted story. I wont give away the plot but if you are into human stories that explore honesty, betrayal, narcissism, love, sacrifice. It is gut-wrenching. Definitely, definitely worth the approx 10 hours to get through both seasons. I hope there will be a 3rd season.

You're Really Clever, Aren't You?, I'm not a Doctor but I do Alright!
I knew about the show but for some reason was unable to watch it on the BBC.After having caught up on the episodes available via Amazon, I have to say itis a very good tv show. Always been a fan of Suranne Jones and was very likelyto watch this, but credit must be given to the execution, acting and shooting ofthe show. It's all on point. The only slightly negative issue is somewhere in the middle of the season, thestory dragged on a bit and I was worried it might become soapish but itrecovered and the finale was spectacular; particularly the dinner scene in thelast episode. Overall, not to be missed. Good soundtrack also, never knew thecomposer until I saw it was by Frans Bak.

Fantastic acting!
If you like Suranne Jones watch this. It is really great portrayal a woman scorn and a loving mother. I have watched the full 2 seasons twice. Once when first on television.

Loved the show
I loved the tv series but unfortunately the DVDs were not working on my DVD reader so had to use them on my laptop. Never mind. Tried on another reader (of a friend’s) as well and they had problems too even if eventually they were ok.

Bedtime stories
This is an everyday story of medical and business folk at home, at work and at play, enjoying themselves both in bed and out - mostly in.It is a story of relationships: husbands with other men's wives and wives with other women's husbands, and how such relationships begin, develop and end.We learn that the basis of successful marriage is being able to lie convincingly. This is very important in a happy marriage because once one partner begins to suspect the other partner of not telling the truth, it can spell disaster. So rule number one is to make sure you're a good liar.If this series is anything to go by, then rule number two must be that 'no matter how much you are "having it off" with others, always make sure that your official partner is kept satisfied.'Another lesson taught us in this matrimonially educative series is that if you have any children, find out what keeps them happy and make sure they get plenty of it. In this way they won't upset the family apple cart and mummy and daddy will be left free to pursue their extra-marital affairs. The mistake the two protagonists make in 'Doctor Foster' is that they never pause to wonder why their twelve-year-old (later fifteen-year-old) son looks permanently miserable - full marks to the sullen young actor playing Tom the son, who manages to avoid even a hint of a smile throughout all ten episodes. As regards language the series showed how very limited is the increasingly popular use of 'good' as an adverb. 'How are you?' Dr Foster is often asked. 'Good' or 'I'm good' she replies, as it is assumed that the average English doctor would respond nowadays. At one point, however, a character is forced to avoid 'good' and ask 'Are you alright?', because 'Are you good?' would sound silly, as would 'a good written article'.Perhaps it is in the interests of prolonging the series that the two main characters never seem to be able to let well alone (or is it 'let good alone?), since as soon as they have agreed on a modus vivendi, the better-off of the two will gloat and the worse-off one will seek revenge, thereby paving the way for prolonging the agony and the series. They spend so much time drinking wine in this series that one wonders if it was subsidised by the Winegrower's Association. One is tempted to parody a well-known quote of Dr Johnson's: 'If a glass of wine is observed, a a drinker is presumed.'The blurb has so many reviewers giving this thoroughly depressing series five stars that one wonders on what they base their criteria. Surely it can't be entertainment, masochists apart, of course. The series is saved, if that is the right word, by some first-class acting.

Unexpectedly sinister!
Very strong storylines, superbly acted by the main characters but especially by Suranne Jones, an actress whom I have never come across until viewing the first episodes of 'Gentleman Jack' to be screened recently. She has the tremendous skill of portraying the character she is acting in a totally realistic way and never over does it.There was real tension, very realistic mental frailty, trauma, treachery and for me at least, rather too much sexual content but overall a very compelling series

Exceptional
Nothing short of exceptional. The acting is tremendous, the story grips you from start to finish, and for me one of the most important factors is that you generally like the characters (well, apart from one!).I'm not big on British shows, but I have to say this series is one of the best I have seen in a long time, and I binge watched it in 24 hours! The DVD itself lacks any sort of special features, which is a bit disappointing, but the show, being 5 hours of brilliant television, more than makes up for it, hence the 5 stars.
