Our gas fire looks like a new one again!
After several years of regular use, our gas-fire coals and the back panel 'wall' had turned brown, with blotches of white. I did initially contemplate purchasing a pack of replacement parts, but this would have meant shelling out over £80. So instead, I decided to go the inexpensive route, and have a go at rejuvenating our existing coals and back panel with a can of this Black Coal Paint. This is the simple step-by-step procedure I followed:* I firstly took a photo of the coals - to ensure I later placed each one back in the correct location/position!* Put down an old bath towel on the carpet directly in front of the fire, and covered the marble hearth with some protective cloths.* Removed the brass fire fret and the brass surround trim (I later polished these up in the garage).* Carefully removed each coal and place them in order in the bottom of a cardboard box.* Vacuumed up any dust residue left around bottom and sides of fire unit.* Opened all windows and doors in our lounge to provide adequate ventilation.* Applied a face mask - this is a must because of the acetone & xylene paint fumes.* Shook the can for a minute, then applied spray paint evenly to back 'wall' panel. I found that its best to apply thinly, wait a few minutes, then apply another coat.* I chose a calm dry day - so (still wearing a mask) spray-painted the coals outdoors. After an hour, I gave the coals a second coat. After another hour, I applied a third and final coat. Left coals to dry for a further hour.* Polished up the brass fret and trim.* Refitted the coals and brass parts.* Sat back and admired my handiwork!I decided to leave it 24 hours before I actually ignited the fire, and I noticed no nasty smells or smoke emanating from the coals. I have to say that my wife and I are very happy with the results after using this Black Coal Paint. It really has helped to transform our gas fire, I therefore have no hesitation in recommending this excellent product to those seeking to rejuvenate their own gas fires.

Coal paint.
The paint worked really well on the coals. Although it was quite strong smelling to start, it soon disappeared.

Highly recommended!
I was thinking we'd need to get a new fire, as you can see from the 'before' picture, it was in an embarrassing state, but then I had a flashback to my youth - I remembered my dad used to reblacken the gas fire coals! Did a quick search and found this product; a similar product was cheaper but for the effort it would take I didn't want to risk it. I'm also a bit slap dash and patience isn't one of my many virtues!!I liked the review from silitone, from October 2020 - they gave a step by step guide, which I followed. The taking a photo tip helped when putting coals back. It's a sunny February day, so sprayed them outside and left an hour between each coat - due to my lack of patience 😆. Did the back and side panels twice. This completely emptied the can.I obviously can't say how long they will last, but we never use our fire as we've got a huge double radiator that warms the lounge even on the coldest of nights. To be honest, if this lasts a year and I need to do it again, I won't mind; the end result says it all really!

Easy to use. Coals look like new
Item was delivered on time. It's a spray paint, so would advise doing top and bottom separately, on paper. Dries quickly. The coals, (mine were dusty grey, and tired looking), looked like new. Far better than buying new coals. Excellent product. Does what it says on the website.

Apply at least three coats
Coals looked excellent after application and very easy to apply. However a little disappointed because even after one short burning of the fire (20 minutes) the 'coals' are almost back to how they were and I stuck rigidly to the instructions (leave for 24 hours before lighting the fire). I guess next time I will have to apply at least three coats.

Black coal spray paint
Easy to use but took several coats to cover as it's so thin and watery even after shaking can continuous. Dries quick but wasted more as it goes everywhere as its so watery.
