All Necessary Force

My favorite Pike Logan thus far. The character development finally equals the fine writing and excellent plot. Recommended.
I am working my way through Brad Taylor's Pike Logan back list. I think this is the 4th Pike Logan thriller I have devoured thus far. I liked it better than the others by far. I look forward to the rest of Mr. Taylor's body of work. All of Taylor's Pike Logan books so far, and this one as well, meet our expectations for a modern thriller. We have a lot of action in varied and interesting scenarios and exotic locations. We also get plenty of trade craft in tracking down bad guys using modern techniques. Thriller readers like this stuff. We enjoy the illusion of reality that a careful and well informed writer brings to the table. My quibble with Mr. Taylor has been his thin wash on his characters. We like his characters as readers and want to know them more deeply. Well, in All Necessary Force we get our wish. We have a chance to look a lot more deeply into the lives and thoughts of the two major protagonists, Pike Logan-commando and special agent-and his companion Jennifer Cahill-trained archaeologist and budding commando. This is great stuff. The more we get to know them, the closer we understand them, the better we like them. The story has the good guys trying to find the bad guys and deal with them. I won't say beyond that except that it seems realistic. The details of craft work and tech keep it interesting and the story moves right along. This edition of the Pike Logan story ranks with the very best of the genre. It just doesn't get much better than this by any writer at any time.

A page turner. Well developed characters. Enjoyable ripped from the headlines plot. This is a series I'll keep reading. Very nice.

'Let Us Do Evil That Good May Come'
The above motto of the Taskforce team led by Pike Logan and his (almost) equally dangerous sidekick Jennifer Cahill, is alive and well in this rousing story by Brad Taylor.Muslim terrorists are out to eventually create havoc in the USA, and the President calls on citizen Pike to sort things out...and let the roller coaster thrill ride begin! The action is non stop, exciting, and suspenseful, with several twisting (but easy to follow) sub plots. Anxious page turning is the rule in 'All Necessary Force' (aptly named indeed), and it is a one sitting book, if you are so inclined.A fun read that is totally realistic (no leaps of faith required here), and a wonderful treat versus the norm for this genre. A solid 5 star outing, however be patient through the first few chapters which jump around, as the author builds his story. There is a solid ending that left me completely satisfied, and I was very please that the author did not fill the 380 pages, with the usual fluff and overextended fights or chase scenes.I apologize to the author for my previous review of his first book "One Rough Man", for leaving the massacre of Pike's family unanswered. The reason is well understood in this second Pike book...a real character builder for our hero. BTW, you do not have to read the books in order to enjoy ANF.

All Necessary Force" is a thrilling and intense follow-up to Brad Taylor’s debut novel
The novel explores the threat of terrorism and the measures taken to ensure national security, emphasizing the complexities and moral ambiguities involved. Themes of loyalty and sacrifice are central to the story, highlighting the personal and professional stakes for Pike and his team. The story delves into the vulnerabilities of modern technology and infrastructure, illustrating how they can be exploited.

Pike is a great character - flawed but true to his code.
The novel is a true thriller - an exciting and enjoyable read.I struggle believing that any POTUS has the time to intimate my involved in day-to-day clandestine operations - but is fun to read😃

Great Read
Let me start by saying that after reading Brad Taylor's first two offerings, I am a fan. Both One Rough Man and All necessary Force are very enjoyable reads and very difficult to put down. Both are full of fast-paced action and believeable situations. For those of us living in what we think are our nice safe cocoons, these books present a bit of a reality check as there are some very bad people out there. Yes I realize these works are "fiction" but given Mr. Taylor's background, I believe there is a lot more fact than fiction in these books.I am always amused at the self-serving reviewers who pan books like these using their college English Lit. learned terminology to supposedly dissect these books. Do they really think those of us who read for enjoyment give two hoots about their infantile opinions? And what about the person who gave a one star rating to Taylor's first book then bought and read the second book only to give it a one star rating and said it was just what was expected. Isn't doing the same thing expecting different results one of the definitions of insanity?. Give it a break all you nay sayers, these books are for pleasure and they deliver.

Ending let it down
Until the last 10 percent of the book I would have rated this one a 4 star. Very fast paced and enjoyable. Pike does have a problem with everyone on his team though. Every time he gives an order they argue with him and question his judgment. That could be toned down to make it even better. But then we get to the end. The team is back in the US having chased the terrorist cell there (Not a Spoiler the premise is always a domestic cell ) so this is now a domestic matter and the team should be stood down so domestic law enforcement can take over. But no body with the resources is able to bring these to bear.!!!! Even though Director CIA and the Sec Def and the President are convinced of the imminent threat and have ordered the police and FBI to respond they "don't have the resources to respond quickly enough". So Pike and his team of 4 have to take out the threat. BTW this is occurring in Washington DC area. The premise is cartoonish. Its Ben 10, its Scooby Doo. It does not belong in this book and killed the last bit of the book for me. The author should have thought another way for Pike and his team to be involved. This might wash for a teenager but destroys the credibility of the story for me.

Couldn't put it down
This author was recommended by my favorite author Brad Thor. Rather than starting with his latest I am starting at the beginning and so far I am blown away. I can't stop. Highly recommend if you like a good thriller.
