Slow! Not USB 3.0.
It is not USB 3.0. I tested it by transferring a 3.2 GB file from laptop to external hard drive. I compared it to an existing USB 3.0 cable I already have. It was less than half the speed of my original USB cable.

dead after 4 months.
This only got 1 star because I can't give it NO stars.I am in graduate school, and use portable hard-drives constantly for my school work. I bought a pair of extra cables because in the kabillion trips between school and home, I have lost my original cables to connect my portable hard drives to the computers I do my school work on (Animation and Video Editing work)I purchased these cables so I would have reliable backups. I specifically wanted braided cables because I wanted the extra durability.I wish I could say it was just one cable and that it was a fluke or just dumb luck.. but BOTH cables (yes, I bought a pair so I would have a handy supply in case of emergency) BOTH cables refuse to make connection between my hard-drives and work computers.Tested the hard drive with 3 other cables that are NOT the ones this review is about, and the hard drive mount perfectly fine. I use either of the two cables I purchased and the 2 computers I did my testing 'see' there is something plugged in, but they do not mount the hard drives. The drives I am using are the LaCie rugged portalble drives. I did my tests on a 2T and a 1T drive. Same results. They look sturdy and good, and they feel sturdy and good in your hands. And I wanted the gold-connectors for the better quality as well, which was my reason for this exact purchase.4-Months later... I'm back looking for new cables. If you are looking to use these cables for Hard-Drive connections... BEWARE!!! Your money may be better spent elsewhere. (Mine would have)

Perfect for replacement of WD Passport drive
Perfect replacement for Western Digital My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 hard drive. Works flawlessly, and the soft braided cable and gold USB ends are nice touches. The cable length is perfect (same as the original WD cable) and the connection is nice and tight on both device ends. Couldn't ask for a better cable.I knew I needed to replace the WD data cable when my computer quit recognizing the drive as being plugged in. The drive activity light would come on but never flash with activity, and would not show a drive letter in My Computer.

Not strong enough
The cable lasts for a while, matter of a few short months. However, oddly enough despite the claims of how sturdy it is, it keeps breaking down. I've bought multiple cables thinking it was a "bad apple." However the product keeps breaking down.No for those reading this, I'm not careless with how I handle the cables either. I don't bunch them up. I don't carry the device by the cable or otherwise.I'm not sure what needs to be done to fix the issue but I'd recommend looking for another product.

MICRO B CABLE - DOES NOT FIT ALL ANDROID DEVICES!
For those of you who have "Micro B cable" devices (like my Samsung Note 3 which I use only as an in-house wi-fi device), this is a sturdy, well-made cable and the perfect length for connecting your devices in the car (that's why I bought it in the first place). Unfortunately, I didn't know what a "Micro B Cable" was and I didn't look closely at that end on the photo before ordering! The USB end is standard but the other end is "split" and doesn't fit all android devices, those with the familiar smaller, single opening which is wider on one side and narrower on the other).I knew it wouldn't fit my new android devices (S8 and ASUS ZenPad Z8s) but planned to use them with the little "adapter" that came with those new devices so they could be charged with older cables....it doesn't, of course. Anyway, I'm back to searching for a 1.5' cable to use in my car. Just to recap....these cable are great if they fit your devices....lesson learned.

don't waste your money
Don't bother with these if you're expecting them to last more than 6 months. BOTH these cables lasted LESS than 6 months. One only made it 4 months. They *look* good and durable, but looks are deceiving.

Better than the cable that came with my external hard drive.
I have a Seagate Backup Plus 4TB Portable External Hard Drive that was dropping in and out while connected to my computer. It turns out that the cable the drive came with was having issues. I replaced it with this cable, and I'm very happy with the results. I will buy these again if I ever need more.

Awesome Cables!
Dj's know that the first thing to crap out on you are cables, especially hard drive cables. Ive had these for a few months now and im very impressed by the quality and durability of them. true braided lines on the outside and gold plated connection tips make for lightning fast transfers of my music from computer to my multiple backup hard drives. Even if you dont need them now i would suggest having a set of these as a backup in your gear bag!
