Elemental Germans by C. Laucht
An esoteric book about an interesting aspect of a massive subject (atomic weapon history). Pretty much what I expected, but leaves a lot of unanswered questions. Tantalizing use of 1176 "notes and references" to develop 177 pages of text. Wow! Lots of leads for more in-depth study but many of the references are probably underused and likely to be virtually unavailable.Recent publication may have enabled use of previously classified information -- I wonder if that is the case. This should not be anyones introduction to the subject. Significant prior background is required to fully appreciate this book.Mr. Laucht needs to enlist a consultant on atomic and nuclear physics before putting out a second addition because there are some gagging inaccuracies especially about isotopes. These, however, do not distract from the book's significant value and only tend to unnerve. The history, which is the essence of the book, is probably valid.
