Thanks for your message. You would be safe to get a size small. An XS would probably work but with a larger size your grandson can get two seasons out the pants. They grow so quick. So if you go with a small they may be a little baggy but the waist is elastic so it should be fine. If you do not want the bagginess I would go with an XS.
