Entertaining characters and interesting historical details!
This a a beautiful story of a young woman seeking independence, growing up, gaining freedoms, and discovering herself! The main character is one that so many, including myself, can relate to. The attention to historical details is remarkable and very respectable. The additional characters are endearing and entertaining. Overall a very enjoyable and fast read!

A 1917 Country Girl in New York!
A fine old-fashioned tale of a young woman's struggle as she uses a hat shop job toward what she hopes will be a fashion art career. The background is feminism and gaining women's right to vote, as well as the sweatshop situation of garment workers. Bad luck dogs the heroine as the 1918 flu strikes. How divorced we feel today from a world where people called the druggist, but not the doctor!

Engaging and relevant today
Counting Crows is not only an engaging read, but it also resonates today with New York City in this new age of the corona virus. Maggie, the central character, is a young woman who arrives in the big city in 1918 eager to achieve her dream of becoming an artist. But she must personally experience sexual harassment, the uphill battle of women's suffrage, the cruel injustice in the lives of immigrant women and children, and the searing toll taken by the Spanish flu, before she acquires the resilience to find her own path forward.

Characters are amazing! Such details too.
I loved the characters! The details were great! I felt like I actually knew them and fantasized about living during the period, having visited the area many years ago. You can tell Linda did a lot of research for this story. I've given it to others to read. No one was disappointed!
