Top Cat: The Movie [DVD]

This movie captures the magic from the 1960s TV series very well even to the point of setting the story in New York City. I still don't know why that TV movie from the 80s moved the action to Los Angeles without explaining why the original took place in New York. The voice acting is acceptable though some characters sound different than their original voices. This is to be expected since most of the original voice actors are long dead.

I was pleasantly surprised by my sons interest in this movie. It's usually his choice to watch before dozens of others he has. He tells everyone how great this movie is to him and even takes it along when we go places. It's not only one character but all of them he likes.

Because after seeing the trailers on youtube, I was waiting for the movie to come to the United States. When I saw that you had it on dvd I decided to order it.

I haven't really watched it however my one year old doesn't seem to like it like he does his other cartoons so i will watch it and tell u later what I think

For starter, my 9 year son saw a preview of this movie and he told me about it. So I decided to purchase it, since couldn't find it at the store.

Not as well written or acted as the original cartoon.

The 3D version is magically entertaining. The characters are presented as 2D pieces placed in various positions onto a marvelously rich 3D background. Although I'd think this might be gimmicky and distractive, it works. Thus one has the classic feel of the Top Cat cartoons upgraded into a wonderfully constructed 3D environment: with good reach out of the screen, excellent depth, and fine resolution. I had to stop several times and watch it in several helpings as it was so delicious. The story is unexpectedly sophisticated while still appealing to little kids. Viewed on a large wall screen in 3D with full surround sound it's an immersive experience. This takes an honored place in one of the "best of the best" of my extensive 3D blu ray collection. To all those involved in making this product I say: "Bravo!"

Content: It's good fun and cinema quality, rather than made for TV talking heads with all the Top Cat gang, Dibble and a bad guy to cause trouble.Disc: I had 3 different DVDs, two second hand described as 'good condition' which didn't play because the chapters jumped back. I bought a new version and this did the same on a portable DVD player but played through on a computer DVD player.3 stars due to the faults.

My 5 yr old son enjoys top cat the old tv series & after seeing a trailer the film wanted to see it, I enjoy the show as well so thought it would be a good buy especially with it being in 3D which the whole family really enjoy....... How wrong could I be!!!Let me get the good out of the way - animation is good, a nice cell shade style animation which worked well. The picture was great & the 3D was very decent although no 'pop out' effects, more about subject isolation/depth.Now the bad...... The story started really quickly with no build, there were no jokes..... At all..... I genuinely did not laugh once & even more telling neither did my son!!!! The soundtrack was non existent, it seemed to be just some background noise with very little in the way of adding music to build the scene. Even though it is only 87mins long it felt like a 4hr epic....it dragged on..... And on...... And on...... AMD ON!!!!It's a shame it was not given the Hollywood treatment but instead (from what I can gather) a small Mexican film company...... The characters are there & the hanna barbera series that have been adapted (flintstones, scooby-doo, Yogi Bear) have actually been quite fun and are good family entertainment!Why 2*'s? The animation is good as is the 3D....... So kudos to the production..... BUT that's it - not really recommended :(
