Every Louis L'Amour book I've ever read took off like a shot and kept me hooked to the end. His description of the land is amazing, but not overwhelming, his characters are rich and real. I feel like I'm being both educated and entertained with every book I've ever read by him. Never read one of his books I didn't like!

One of the better ones for plot and an interesting character with depth. enjoyed it a lot. Looking forward to the rest

Very traditional cowboy story. Louis Lamour is a favorite of mine. There is always adventure and romance in my his books.

Years ago I read many of Louis Lamour's Western books.INMO he was one of the best Western writers. His characters are fantastically described as well as the scenery and the entire western environment.Sackett was one of his better books. The book is action packed and fast reading. I read it in 1/2 day. I'll just tell a little of the story to get your interest.William Tell Sackett was a 6ft 4in, mountain man, ex union solder and trail cowboy. In this book we meet his brothers and his mom. The brothers have made a great life for themselves, their wives and taking good care of their mom. Tell believes he is just a cowboy, good with a rifle and six gun and living off the land but has not done anything great. Later he finds a rich gold mother lode and a sick feverish young woman named Ange near the gold mine. Her Grandpa had died taking her prospecting to find the mine.Tell makes friends with an older man named Cap and together they plan a town near their goldmine claim. Other man try to steal the mine and take the town and Tell must fight with his guns.Here is a man that only wanted peace and maybe a small ranch and to find a good woman. However he must fight again and again. Later in a saloon he has a gunfight with a big mean man named Bigalow and .... ( read for yourself)Tell saves the life of a man with a broken leg in a savage, brutal winter storm in the mountains ( a man who wants to kill him and Angie).What a story! Tell what a man!I wont ruin the great ending. This book is recommended for anyone loving the wild west and to start reading the Sackett series. Louise Lamour my best western author. Bought and read this book again for our family library. 5 stars.

I've been reading Louis L'Amour for years and got hooked on the Sacketts shortly after the miniseries was out. I've had the set for years, but recently after a move I found I had missplaced some of them and was looking to replace them. I was glad to find this on Amazon and at a reasonable price.

Hello Tell Sackett, we are finally introduced to one of the author' s favorite characters. Great story and excellent way to introduce a couple of new characters. Unrelenting action and great characters are the hallmark of Louis L'Amour. Enjoy while I go searching for the next in this series.

This book and the next 5 in the Sackett novels were not to be delivered until tomorrow, Tuesday. When I checked my PO Box on Sat, the books were there. I've already read this book, and I'm well into To The Far Blue Mountains. I have read Louis L'Amour many years ago, and now, it will be fun to read the Sacketts in the order they should be read.I was overjoyed with the early arrival. It saved me from going out and buying myself a substitute while I was waiting for my order.Ok, I am in the process of moving & my books are in boxes. I'm just too lazy to re-box them.Louis L'Amour books are an easy, quick read.

Excellent story. Great reading with believable background and contextual setting.

It's a long time since I read any western books. I used to read a lot from this author and he has never disappointed. The story is well written. The characters described with sufficient depth that you can empathise with them. The action is fast paced and often enough to keep you enthralled.

I have a long way to go,I've just read a few and they are all stories that take you right there!

Light reading

Originally story of Tell Saxkett and follow up to the Daybreakers. A great read of courage, against bad men and the extremes of mountain weather.
