Central Tools 6380 Torque Multiplier, 1000 ft lb

I use this to break the centerlock wheel nuts on my car. They are torqued to 444 ft-lb, and this tool eliminated the need for a huge breaker bar and/or huge muscles. I weigh 140 lbs, and had no trouble breaking the centerlocks.It comes with a 2-page instruction sheet that provides instructions use use and service. The tool head is completely serviceable, and the back of the sheet has an exploded parts diagram should you need to order replacement parts. The instruction sheet even provides the "Mathematics of the X-4 Torque Multiplier".The maximum output capacity is 1,000 ft-lb, and the maximum input is 275 ft-lb.The input drive is 1/2", and the output side is 3/4". The input side is the female side, and this is where you insert your drive tool, for example, a 1/2" ratchet or breaker bar. The output side is the male 3/4" head, and this is what you attach your socket to.So here's how it works: the torque multiplier's head contains a planetary transmission that converts an input force to an output force that is a 4x multiple of the input force (reduced by 10-20% due to friction). The output drive rotates in the same direction as the input drive, but the tool head (and attached arm) will rotate in the opposite direction. This is why the attached arm is called the reaction arm. It has to be braced against something solid and stationary. I like to use the garage floor. Each full revolution of the input drive will produce a 1/4 revolution of the output drive.

Another Tech in our shop had this exact same tool and it provided good service for us through the years. It is not something you use everyday but when you need it, you need it badly. That tech moved on and we got ourselves in a jam where we had to have one. No one else in the area had one to borrow. We ordered this overnight and it did the job perfectly. I definitely would recommend this tool for every techs tool box for those hard to reach places where you can't get a big gun, need to torque something back properly or can't get your gun to break something loose. It allows an awesome amount of pressure to be applied without killing your back.

We use these to tighten 7/8" and 1-1/8" wire rope clips to 225 lb/ft. This makes it easy for one person to operate, although it is slow. But that's the nature of the beast.

First job out the box was to remove a 1000 foot pound torqued fastener and it worked perfect. I highly recommend this product if you are in the market for a 4 to 1 multiplier.
