Great for first timers and hobbiest. Just make sure your tank is topped off. Pressure degrades at about the halfway through a tank.

It works great

Melted copper, tried lifting the smallest supplied crucible with the tongs in the kit and the crucible edge broke off and spilled 8 pounds of copper inside the furnace. Tipped the furnace over to get the bulk of the copper out. This resulted in the rivets on the lid handle melting, as they were made of aluminum. The package should include a lifting tong and better crucibles. The provided gloves had incomplete stitching which allowed some of the metal to burn my hand when the crucible dropped back into the furnace. Thank goodness it did not break at my feet. I am ordering some lifting tongs and pure graphite crucibles. I do not know if the insulation is compromised, but will find out on the next attempt. I purchased this product thinking it was well rated. I am now doubting the Amazon rating system.

Handle melted off almost immediately. Maybe use sturdier materials around high temperatures? Burner nozzles are cast iron and will burn off over time. Still works, but could be made of better materials. Valves and piping...really everything could be made better, but for a starter furnace it's fine.You WILL need to get a set of tongs and grips for the large crucible. DO NOT try to use the tongs to lift.The igniter was broken to begin with, and the gloves provided are worthless.

The metal is thin.After just one use, the surface started to warp, which might be due to poor insulation. The metal deformed when exposed to high temperatures. It's not worth the price.

Love using it to melt copper and making copper bars. Takes up less room than scrap.

Sturdy, well insulated, easy to assemble. As a beginner in the metal melting business, I would've liked to know beforehand that the ceramic fiber needs to be sealed to avoid health hazard to the lungs (silica particles are very dangerous). Still 5 star because I should've done my homework. For those who wonder, I'm starting this in 3 steps. 1. 2 coats of Cab-O-Sil as a rigidizer (don't bother buying premixed rigidizer, Cab-O-Sil is a lot cheaper). 2. 2-3 1/8th of an inch coats of satanite ( to get 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch total), then fire the furnace at low temp for ~45 sec then let it cool, repeat the firing at medium temp for a minute then let it cool, repeat again at high temp for 2 min and let it cool. And finally 3. A thin layer of ITC-100 (1/16 to 1/8 of an inch) and do the gradual firing and cooldown sequence again. Then you're good to go. This is what I'm doing, it's not the only viable option, I suggest that you do some research before starting and find what coating suits your forge best.The final coating of itc-100 isn't yet applied and it already burn hot enough to melt a piece of vintage cast iron weight that was making a gap in the door to cure the satanite.
