Q: I tried these on locally and I was wondering if the book was supposed to fit snug around the ankle at the point where the velro strap is.

Yes this is so the zipper stays intact. One note of interest though is I had to order one size up . They were not true to size. The re-order fits perfectly. These answers are from my husband who I purchased these boots for.

I usually wear 10s so I bought 10s and they fit great. My foot is 10 5/8". Love the fact that standing up I can just slip into them, another great product from Muck.
