Good story if you can get around the magic thing.
OK so I like fantasy stories about the Fae. So I've got some experience when I say this is book isn't a typical Fae story. The author took all the background lore about Fae and tossed it. Apparently she feels she can write a better story about Fae. There's no Sidhe, no little folk, no gentry. No light and dark Fae. There's no Fae glamor, no old wives tales. She even decided to re-write how magic works. The Fae aren't nature deities or super powerful magic users. They use color to draw magic from. Yes color is magic. So the fact this fae court is called the Crimson court is telling because red is used to destroy. There is some world building she mentions 3 fae courts. Red , blue and yellow. There's other magical beings like Phoenix. She called elves the Alf. There's a couple others but they don't matter because they're not part of the story. So our heroine Emelin isn't living her best life. She's kind of a eff up. The story starts with her worried she's let down her parents who are arguing over if they can let her out to a celebration and if she's going to cause a scene. Things happen around her.

nice take on fae/human plot
This is the first book Iāve read by this author, but it wonāt be the last. Editing was superb, but the world building needs a lot of work. I like details and maps!!Took awhile for the FMCās personality and character to come up to par. She is a bit of a doormat to her mom & dad at the beginning & Iāve never particularly cared for the whole āCinderellaā syndrome. As the story goes along, though, she becomes snarky & her intelligence & strength blooms. She is really quite an enjoyable character. The MMC is hot, broody, and mysteriously sweet natured. Iām looking forward to finding out more of both Emelineās and Creonās background and parentage.Throughout most of the book, it is mainly Emelineās thoughts and feelings set out in a narrative. There is very little actual dialogue even with the understanding of Creonās muteness. Love the fact that she teaches him sign language as well! Great plot line.Overall, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the rest of their story.

I <3 Lisette Marshall! Guaranteed Great Read
This is the third book and second series Iāve read by this author. She never disappoints. Every book is completely satisfying. Her characters are complicated and real. Their struggles are epic. The characters take you on an emotional rollercoaster. The plot is intricate and well crafted. You canāt stop reading. The last 25% of the book begs to be read in one sitting. So much happens. I like to savor her books but the end is always too thrilling and unputdownable. I am off to book 2!

Perfect fantasy romance! The world of fae and other supernatural creatures was stunning! I loved the power of using colors was utilized. The story was engaging and I was enthralled from page one. And holy cow did I love Em and Creon! Em was the perfect leading lady: witty, strong, intelligent, and the right amount of flirty. And Creon! Oh man! That silent SOB was⦠chefs kiss. Perfect! I canāt sing enough praises for book one in this series! I canāt wait for book two! Letās go!

Good fantasy with romance tossed in
This book has kept me on my toes guessing. Was hoping it wasn't a cliffhanger but the story continues in another book. Except for that it was good I gave it a four star because to get the rest of the story I have to buy another book

āindeedā nearly ruined it for me, indeed
this author uses the word āindeedā an infuriating amount. i have never noticed such unnecessary and annoying over-usage of a single word in a story before this one. it HAD to have been intentional. no one accidentally overuses a word like āindeedā. it probably wont bother you so much though and you should definitely read the book anyway as the story is beautiful and even made me cry a bit. am RUNNING to find book 2.

Omg loved it!!
So here we have a story of the Fae. The world building was great with some things. Loved the silent death. I did not realize that it meant our male MC did not have a voice, but I actually loved that. It really made the story much more interesting. The female MC Emelin is also amazing. Despite her learning so much about herself she seems to keep somewhat of a level head and uses so many of her advantages to help her. I could not put this book down. Yes to enemies to lovers, the spice is done wonderfully and I'm excited to see what these two will do to the Mother.

loved it!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. In love with the characters. So much emotion and trauma and complicated family relationships. The relationship between Emelin and Creon fully makes my heart squeeze. Slow burn but steamy. Definitely recommend for any fantasy romance readers.

An amazing, rich start to a new series
š« The tropes - enemies to lovers, fake dating, only one bed, hurt/comfort, fae bargains, MMC learns a language to communicate with the FMC šš« Two wonderful MCs, and relationship/trust which is so wholesomeš« Colour magic! I found this part of the magic system to be so interesting, because there are literally infinite possibilities with colours, and the MCs explore them so wellš« A flirty, friendly labyrinth (yes, I do mean a system of tunnels)š« And of course a scheming, suspenseful plot as this author's books always are!
