Meta-Narratives: Essays on Philosophy and Symbolism

a good follow-up to jay's youtube vids
There are several areas of knowledge and topics that Jay Dyer does not always have the time to go into details with his various videos out on youtube. If you already are a fan and want to know where he gets some of his ideas from, this isn't a bad option to read.I learned quite a bit of how some of the ancients think and how people today are still making the same mistakes. This is also for folks who thought Jay was saying "priest-o-cratics" instead of "pre-so-cratics".You also get to see what is behind what otherwise appears to be random 'tangents' of his.

Timely and vital
These essays firmly establish the necessity of the philosophic branch of metaphysics as an immutable foundation to any form of inquiry. There was a concerted effort during the last century to abolish the metaphysical branch from philosophy due to the successful endeavors of the scientific method. Read the introduction to Will Durant's Story of Philosophy for further insight into this pernicious attempt. The results have been obviously devastating. In the absence of metaphysical inquiry we have been collectively assaulted by a relativism whose kaleidoscope of nonsense has rapidly eroded the landscape of inherited meaning and wages a unceasing war against truth. This book of essays is an argument against nonsense and toward a meaningful restoration of centuries old first principles that civilization itself depends on.

solid as usual
Timely. J does it again. I’m impressed by his research and his willingness to tackle difficult subjects head on. Look forward to the next one.

A must read for those who take philosophy seriously
The field of philosophy has been all but dead in the academic world for some time. Jay, however, has made a significant contribution to the discipline and his new book (as well as his YouTube analysis) is working towards a resurrection of the beauty of philosophic inquiry. Until the university systems change, I will be putting my trust in Jay and Fr. Dcn. Ananias. Meta-Narratives is one of those books which keeps me inspired in continuing on in my studies.

Good, but needs more editing
I enjoy the content of this book, and have learned many interesting things and am glad that I have added it to my library. My only critique though is that it probably needs a bit more thorough editing. Some of the sourced quotes are marked with a ‘?’ or a blank as if Jay neglected to put them in the final edition out out for print. I am able to dig up the sources myself, but this is an issue I hope is rectified in future editions of this book. This is why I have taken off one star. I would still recommend it, and it is my hope that Jay sees this. The picture provided is the most egregious example of what I am talking about, but is*not* representive.

Absolutely amazing
Very deep red-pilled book on philosophy to equip you with the tools that you desperately need to develop the discerning eyes to sift through the BS that is hurled at you!

worth the read
I enjoyed opening up my mind to the philosophical aspects in the book. Although I needed to refer to a dictionary at times I felt like I learned a lot here.

Philosophy primer and worldview critique
Zeitgeists often go unchallenged as past ideas that are not necessarily true but nevertheless well marketed often take hold of the impressionable masses . As Jung once said often people think they have ideas but ideas in fact have them. Jay Dyer does an excellent job in these essays of critiquing the antiquated, self refuting presumptions of modern materialism tracing them back to the pantheist and atheistic zealots of the Enlightenment. From ancient mystery traditions stemming from the mouths of Pythagoras and Plato to Maximus the Confessor and modern physicists such as Wolfgang Pauli Dyer argues persuasively for an underlying intelligible structure as the bases for logic and identity . He holds in tandem with his Orthodox faith that Aquinas the medieval theologian with his idea of nomanalism (that things do not contain essences ) leading to the dead end of empiricism with it ultimate denial of free will and self . His transcendent argument for God is particularly noteworthy . Also I feel that some might be afraid to buy this book because of his religious beliefs . You needn’t be his tight argued and entertaining essays do not come across as preachy and a lot of ideas are covered . So even if you disagree if you want an introduction to philosophy in general or to know what exactly is a worldview that isn’t tainted by the monolithic one dimension modern academy of today I recommend picking it up .

How inter-connected are the essays in this book.
Great book. Love from India. Jay always writes great and you should also read the book too, so just go for it.

Reviving metaphysics for the modern age
Without metaphysics, physics leads to scientism and low and behold, we're all locked down. Know your history so you don't repeat its errors, but instead, replicate its great achievements. Good read, get the book.

Great collection of essays by Jay Dyer
Author Jay Dyer has been writing and broadcasting quality content for over ten years. A true polymath and a great debater and lecturer, his interests spans fields such as philosophy, theology, geopolitics, films, literature, etc. This book contains some if his most original and insightful pieces, covering topics such as: the meaning of metaphysics, shortcomings of empiricism, Plato, Aristotle, numbers theory, Darwinism refuted, occultic symbols, God's existence, etc.Though Jay Dyer can get very technical, these essays can be read by laymen and scholars alike. This book may also serve as a non-systematic introduction to philosophy and religious philosophy.

Long awaited and highly Recommended
(will post an updated review once I am done)A book that has been on my radar for quite some time, very excited to really do a deep dive into it. Jay regularly delivers a high quality lecture on various topics (philosophy, logic, epistemology, theology, etc) and it is finally nice to get his essays and words in a proper book format.Unfortunately, there are small people out there who are just interested in down-rating this text just because they don't like Jay's opinions or personality. Give the book a read and find out for yourself.
