Q: Are these suppotive enough for side to side movement?

They are used manly for running and walking but side to side should be a problem since they are lightweight and flexible.. I hope this helps

Q: Does the Patriot 12 have a removable insert?

Yes, they are removable... I removed mine from a pair I bought earlier to put in insoles my doctor gave me.
