A-Z Beekeeping with the Slovenian hive

Interesting book with very good photos and graphics. Nice insight into the Slovenian method of beekeeping, with some guidance on building a hive and keeping bees in that style of hive. Not a very thick book, but well laid out and an enjoyable, informative read.

The book gives a good overview of beekeeping with the traditional Slovenian hive, which allows the beekeeper to examine any hive level without disrupting the rest of the bees. the hive also does not need to be taken apart to examine each hive level. We were able to construct an AZ hive just using this book for measurements and guidance. It contains good graphics and photos.

The information was good for a person that has been a beekeeper for a few years and can visualize certain aspects of this style of beehive. It is beneficial if while reading the book if you have a Slovenian hive to physical support what you are reading.

The information provided is good for starting AZ hives. Great reference.

Good pics, well-written.

Amazon says book. Author says manual. It is a 8 1/2" x 11" and 65 pages long. Four of those are the credits, etc. at the end and the text starts on page 4 so about 57 pages at $.50 a page. Most of the material is freely available on the web. The great benefit is that the dimensioned images are clear and readable. What's missing from this manual, however, is a dimensioned drawing for the sheet metal frame guide which are key to the building one of these hive boxes. In all fairness ,the title says "Beekeeping with the Slovenian Hive" not "Building and Using a Slovenian Hive" which would have been a better book in my estimation. I look at it this way: I paid $26 for incomplete drawings that won't enable me to easily build the Slovenian hive described. The rest of the book is just about beekeeping in a box that can't be expanded and problems with swarming, treating for varroa, feeding in winter, etc. i.e. normal beekeeping.

Fantastic read. Very detailed on hive management and maintenance schedules. A must for any beekeeper even if they don’t use A-Ž beehives.

Easy to read and good information

This is a great book about Slovenian beekeeping and AZ hives. I don't think there is any other english resources available on this topic - but this is well written with lots of pictures. Great job.

Good book, but thought little expensive for what is was.

Does not contain real detailed plans of AZ slovenian hives. Doesnt even show how the frames fit. So many vital details about this hive style missing. I bought it thinking it would give me a good idea how to build and use the AZ hive but its lacking in detail. Its just a general look at hive type with a few architectural drawings that lack explanations.
