Does not work.
Whats the most important feature of any product? for it to work obviously.Well this one does not. I'm a 14 year mechanic and hooking this gauge up was pretty straight forward even if with the wonky instructions that were translated from Chinese. After programming it accordingly to my application it seemed to somewhat work.. although Idle speed was not correct at all compared to what I know the idle speed to be. Second, the gauge would bounce to 2800rpm for no reason at all. Also, the gauge shuts off completely at random. This is a cheaply made product and a complete waste of money. Would not recommend.Ended up even trying to purchase a signal “filter” although it did stabilise the gauge it did not make it work properly. Gauge response time was much slower with filter too. Verdict, junk.

Yanmar replacement with magnetic two prong flywheel sensor
I (we) worked real hard to make this tachometer work on my sailboat (YANMAR 3GM30) auxiliary diesel. This tach has a single wire pickup that should have connected easily to an alternator (if I had the right alternator, but this single wire pickup did not work with my two wire flywheel sensor/generator. Mechanic (on-line at "JUST ASK") suggested a new alternator or purchase the replacement proprietary YANMAR tachometer. As a 40 year old boat with many owners there is a lot of "jury-rigged" electrical work in that engine compartment. So I am still scratching my thinking machinery to find a solution. This tach is super to look at, fits perfectly in the cockpit cut-out, has a great back-light and engine hour meter and really WANTS to work...but just cannot connect in this situation. Pretty sure it is my engine problem and not with the tach. If anyone has suggestions, I am listening!A few days later...it works great with a jumper off the neg lead to the magnetic sensor on the flywheel. The tach needs to be set with the exact number of flywheel gear teeth as that is where the magnetic sensor is mounted. My Yanmar has 97 teeth on the flywheel (found in engine maintenance specs) so that is what I set and now life is all good. Will put in a switch for the backlight so I can scare myself out on the water at night with my engine RPM all aglow!
