My PlayStation 3 Slims recently stopped functioning properly - it no longer would read discs put into the optical drive. This is frequently caused by a mechanical failure involving the lens in the optical drive. In my specific case, the disc would be accepted into the PS3, and it would spin the disc slightly, only to stop a second later. The disc would never spin full-speed meaning it would never appear in the XMB menu as a playable game/movie.To fix this, I had to open up the PS3 (requires a special screwdriver included with this purchase), open up the optical drive, and replace this particular piece. Thankfully - my PS3 Slim uses this exact same optical lens, so it fit in perfectly, but make sure you check BEFORE you purchase this item. Not every PS3 Slim uses the same lens.After installing the new lens and putting it all back together, my games can now be read by the system again and everything works nicely. It's not an easy installation, you're going to need to have at least some experience working with electronics to pull it off, and the price is a bit much considering you can buy a refurbished PS3 for only a few hundred dollars more, but for me - this was a worthwhile purchase that saved my PlayStation 3 from the trash.

My PS3 slim would take multiple tries of inserting and re-inserting discs, and then finally stopped reading altogether - I replaced the laser deck with this and it worked like a charm the first time.

My son's ps3 slim stopped reading his games, but would read a regular dvd. After some reaearch I found out that it was a burned out Blu Ray laser. I bought this replacement and put it in within 20 minutes. We put a game in and it read it instantly! 100% worth the money and was simple to do if you're any what familiar with electronics.

I received a T-10 screwdriver but the PS3 uses a T-8 screwdriver. Other than having to find another way to open and replace the lazer assembly, the new assembly works. Deduted 2 stars for receiving the wrong tools.

As a family man with a new child, I don't play games on the PS3 as much anymore. I mostly use it to watch Blu-ray movies now. But last time I used it I find it difficult to read Blu-ray movie disc. Then I try it again by inserting a GT6 disc, same thing. But it had no problems play DVD movies. I tried cleaning it with rubbing alcohol but it still didn't work. I am glad I found this item on Amazon.Installation is fairly easy. If you've ever work on your computer before then you know what to do. If you haven't then just take a lot of pictures with your phone so you can have a reference as to where everything goes. Totally installation time is around 30 minutes. After putting this back together I tested it with GT6 and it read and load the game right away. Tested it using Blu-ray movies and it work right away as well. So I am happy.Can't speak for the durability of this product as I just literially install this today. Will update if it doesn't last. If you see no update from me then that means it's still working. I am happy to buy from nextec again.

My PS3 slim couldn't read any game since July 17, 2013. I still remember the exact day because I played the game Time and Eternity one day after the launch day. My PS3 acted weird and made loud grinding noise when it read this game, it was not the game's fault, I think it was just an issue with PS3's laser. I bought the whole Sony PS3 Slim Bluray DVD Drive replacement on July 22, 2013 in hope I could make it read the game again, but it didn't work. It made the same noise and couldn't read the game, so I returned that Bluray DVD Drive. I thought it was something wrong with the motherboard so I gave up and then I decided to buy PS3 Super Slim and used this PS3 Slim to play digital games.After I fixed a few game consoles (PS1, PS2, Xbox original, and Wii U) recently, I thought I should give that PS3 Slim another try. I tested every type of disc (Bluray movie, PS3 game, PS2 game, PS1 game, and DVD movie), but it couldn't read any Bluray disc including PS3 games. Of course, this PS3 model can't read PS2 games; however, at least it could show the disc icon of PS2 game indicating that it could recognize the disc but it couldn't run it. I heard PS3 has dual laser, so I thought the Bluray laser was dead and there was not anything wrong with the motherboard since it could read CD and DVD fine.I search for PS3 Slim Laser Replacement on Amazon and I found this PS3 Laser Lens + Deck from Nextec. The price is reasonable and it has more positive reviews compared to other company's PS3 laser len. It takes time and patience to replace the laser len + desk; however, you can find some good video show to disassemble PS3 on YouTube. Make sure you don't put everything back together because you may make a mistake while installing the laser len; therefore just leave the PS3 case open and test the game to make sure it can read it before assemble the PS3 completely.I tested every type of disc (Bluray, DVD, and CD), it could read them all. I'm really happy because this PS3 Slim is finally revived. It was "dead" in 6 years since I didn't touch it due to I had fun playing games on PS3 Super Slim. Hopefully, it will last longer.

Ordered this laser and it was shipped and delivered in under a day! The laser was incredibly clean and like new, and the replacement process was very easy and quick. My PS3 Slim now loads games and movies like it's brand new! A new trusted seller for sure!

Das Laufwerk meiner PS3 slim hat BluRays - doppelschichtige - nicht mehr gelesen.Nach Einbau dieses Lasers mit Rahmen funktioniert alles wieder einwandfrei! Insoweit: Top-Produkt!Eine schöne Beigabe ist der Torx T8. Da man aber das Laufwerk (und damit auch die PS3) schon öffnen muss um nachzuschauen, welche Lasereinheit man eigentlich braucht, nützt einem der Dreher erst beim nächsten Öffnen etwas. Denn den Torx braucht man schon zum Öffnen der PS3, bevor man weiß welche Lasereinheit man kaufen muss. Da beißt sich die Katze irgendwie in den Schwanz. Ändert aber nis daran, dass der Dreher an sich in Orndung ist.Einbauanleitungen gibts bei youtube genug - auf richtige Bezeichnung sollte aber geachtet werden. Für fortgeschrittene Bastler ist der Einbau der neuen Lasereinheit mit Sicherheit kein Problem, es wird nur an einer Stelle beim Anschluss eines Kabels etwas frickelig. Auch der unerfahrene Bastler dürfte keine wirklichen Schwierigkeiten haben, wenn er vorsichtig (!) vorgeht und die Anleitungen beherzigt. Ein bissel Zeit sollte aber eingeplant werden. Wer weiß, dass er 2 linke Hände hat, denkt auch sicherlich nicht über den Einbau selbst nach.Fazit: Produkt top, Einbau mit Anleitung auch als durchschnittlicher Bastler problemlos machbar. Würde den Laser wiederkaufen.

My son's PS3 kept freezing during game play and also wouldn't recognise Blu-ray discs although it would still play dvds. A quick search of the internet revealed the likely cause to be the Blu-ray drive so I ordered this one after checking the reviews. Fitting is pretty simple with plenty of guides on You Tube - I'd already had the PS3 in bits the week before to try to clean the lens so taking it apart again and installing the new laser lens and deck took no more than 30 minutes. The PS3 is now working perfectly - no more freezing and games and Blu-rays load immediately! I think that it is an excellent price (certainly a lot cheaper than buying a new console) and I couldn't believe the how quickly it arrived. The T8 security screwdriver is also very handy as standard Torx screwdrivers will not fit the screws in the casing.
