Q: Are these really heavyweight? Need them really soft and really warm for90 y o father.

Not bulky, I wear them under jeans and kakis, very soft and definitely warm. I also recommend for even lighter weight the 32 degrees brand, however the Lapasa"s are my favorite for everyday wear.

Q: Should I get light or mediumweight if I'm going to a football game in 38 degree Fahrenheit weather?

For that type of weather, you probably should get the thickest possible.
