Tracking Gobi Grizzlies: Surviving Beyond the Back of Beyond

No woods for this bear
The shipping, double wrapped, and overall condition of the book were excellent. D. Chadwick nails it with this exposie/study on a little known Grizzly in the gobi desert. If your Interest is in the decline of species and a glimpse into the dwindling, wild, harsh environments some survive in I think you might enjoy this adventure. The wolverine way, by Chadwick, is a good companion book.

Fascinating story of conservation
I came to this book through the Armchair Explorer podcast. The book is well told, with bits of history and culture alongside the natural beauty and wildlife. I really enjoyed the book, and learned, too. Definitely recommend.

finding treasures like this: "While science can't quite bring itself to ...
This book is a trip worth taking, and on so many levels--the bears themselves, the researchers and their motivations, the historical and scientific asides...the bears' situation. It is also very funny--the mix of cultures, the incredible climate and the personal discomfort that these humans are willing to endure in order to try and improve the odds for these bears' survival. I'm on my second reading, finding treasures like this: "While science can't quite bring itself to say that grizzlies like to goof...". Read the book, it will bring you deep into another world within our world, the Gobi itself and its very special bears. Your own caring will be re-energized by this fast-moving multi-level story.

From a Cubs fan to a Gobi Bear fan.
I heard an interview on the radio with the author of this book and it got my interest immediately. I ordered the book, got it a couple days later, finished it a week later and couldn’t wait to fund the Gobi Bear Project. Perhaps it’s because I’ve been a Cubs fan for 45 years. Maybe it’s because I saw an environmental situation so unique that it demanded my attention. Regardless of the motive force, for the first time in my life I felt like getting off my butt and doing something for an endangered animal. This book got me there.

Accurate, good discussion of issues and environment for saving a Critically Endangered population
Well written. Good melding of scientific data and challenges saving a small population, that would leave the world and conservation of brown bears a much poorer place without the effort.
