Q: I would like to float a beeswax candle in this placed on a magnolia leaf (for a pond) - totally biodegradable. I wonder if it'll work?

They are very small and only hold the size of a tealight. I don't know what you mean by float a candle in it, if you mean floating the candle in water the wood would absorb it. They are not very heavy so they should float on the magnolia leaf though.

Q: You can put the wax in there? Or is just a holder?

I love the holders but I wouldn't put wax in them. You'd never get it out; however, I found very reasonable tealights on Amazon that last 7 hours.

Q: On their bottom side are they flat? Would they sit level if turned upside down? Ned them to put woodsy animals on top our fireplace.

These are natural wood, there are imperfections which add to the charm. Mine do not sit level but I don't have an issue with that however if it is an issue for you a simple sheet of sandpaper will do the trick. enjoy
