I haven't watched the TV series and I don't normally read books. The story and descriptions are gripping. The characters have depth and the read is helped by the fact that the story is based on true historical events. The only downside which I got over pretty quickly is that the main character narrates. It's written as if he's old and telling you about his life which means that no matter how hairy things get, you know he'll live because he wouldn't be around to tell the tale otherwise. I can't wait to continue the series.

This is an excellent read! Fast moving, exciting with great characters. My husband read them avidly after I had finished each book!We read the first three books in the series and can't wait to read the next books..If you enjoyed Sharp , also by this author, and especially if you have an interest in history (like me) you will love these. My husband who is not interested in history loved it!
