Works for our dog, with some modifications.
My husband and I originally bought this bowl in Sept. 2015 for our Cairn Terrier (he's about 15 pounds) who inhales his food like he's in training to become a vacuum cleaner. This would result in frequent bouts of tummy upset and regurgitation, and we could clearly see that none of his kibble had actually been chewed. The bowl itself: It is made of durable stainless steel with a rubberized ring on the bottom. Empty, it weighs about 10 oz. Both the bowl and the rubber ring have held up well to daily feeding and washing over approximately 6 months of use. The rubber ring is limited "non-skid," but the dog can still slide it around a bit on our linoleum kitchen floor.Initially we found that the ring shape slowed our dog down a little, enough to prevent his stomach upset. However, the novelty of it wore of and it didn't take long for him to learn the lay of the land; within a week or so he was eating as quickly, or almost as quickly, as he had with a regular bowl. We started to have problems with regurgitation again. We subsequently researched other "slow feed" bowls, but weren't really happy with any of them - most others are molded plastic or silicone, and the reviews were mixed. Some are quite expensive. We generally do not like feeding our animals from anything other than a stainless, glass or ceramic bowls for hygiene and other reasons. Some of the other slow feed bowls have moving pieces or parts that dogs can remove and chew on. According to customer reviews, some of the maze-type slow feeders have very narrow tracks that a larger breeds or short/flat-nosed dog can't reach into. The solution we found was to place rubber balls or toys that we already had for our dogs (such as Kong-type balls and toys) into the track to completely cover the layer of kibble. Some toys we just lay in the track, others we compress into the track so they're harder to move. This means the dog has to remove the toys or nudge them around in order to reach the kibble, and that slows him down enough to make him chew and little and to prevent his tummy upset. Note that regular-sized tennis balls will lay nicely in the track, but because of the fuzz they move and come out very easily, so they aren't much of a challenge. In essence, inserting the balls and toys creates a little "puzzle" for our dog and makes him work for his food; this also stimulates his play and foraging instincts. He doesn't seem to mind it at all. We can make it easier or more difficult depending on what size and shape toys we select and how tightly we put them in the bowl. I've included a couple of pictures of one configuration I've used so you can see. If he learns the configuration, I can always change it up to be more of a challenge again. This works for feeding dry food, but it would probably be very messy if you use wet food, especially if your dog pushes a food-covered ball out of the bowl and across the floor. We rarely give our dogs any wet food, and then only a small bit as a special "additive" to their dry kibble.I would give this bowl 4+ stars if it was just a regular feeding bowl, because it is well made, has proven durable at least for 6 months of regular use, and cleans up nicely and easily with regular dish soap and water. As a "slow feeder," it hasn't really worked well for us in the longer term without some creative modification. On the other hand, it has allowed us to create a puzzle feeder for our dog without any added expense and minimal added time, and has been a good, low cost solution without having to go to something plastic or silicone.

5 Stars!
I am very satisfied with this product. I do not like plastic or silicone pet dishes so it was challenging to find a slow feed dish to my liking. I was also very particular about the size of the dish due to the pet dish stand that we already owned. This bowl fits perfectly inside the existing pet stand bowl. I read a lot of bad reviews for this item simply because it is listed as small bowl. If you're attentative enough to read the deminsions of this item it is not necessarily a small bowl. However, it only holds a little over a cup and a half of puppy food so in my opinion it is a small bowl. This item is very easy to clean and does slow down my dogs eating as described. He does still eat faster than what I would like for him to eat. But I feel that as he grows it will be a little more challenging for him to fit his muzzle around the dome to scarf his food.

Bowl too big
I read the different reviews online that the bowl was too big for most small dogs, but since we adopted another dog SOMETHING had to be done! Before we adopted our Min. Schnuauzer, we had a Yorkie/Brussels Griffon who would just munch at his food slowly all during the day. When Bella (Min. Schnauzer) came along, she was never fed properly and litterly devoured her food within 30 seconds….1 cup!!! I started out feeding them at the same time since she would eat out of our other dog's food so now HE is gulping down his food in 30 seconds as well. NOT GOOD!The bowl slowed down our previous dog "somewhat"…(he still eats as fast as he can because she is eating so veriously), but did nothing to our Min. Schnauzer AT ALL. The bowl is way too big…just like the other reviews said! Each dogs weighs about 15 lbs and they still eat as fast as they did…..they are both choking. Now, I pick up their bowls three times during feeding time, just so they don't choke!!! I didn't send the bowls back but they do need a much smaller bowl for this size dog or it will NEVER work! It needs to be HALF that size.

My feeding problem with my dog has been resolved!
Talk about fast service ... I ordered it yesterday and got it today. Scooby, my small 60 pound German Shepherd bolts his food down and then chokes after taking 3 or 4 BIG BITES without stopping to chew. He chokes bad enough that he runs around the house in panic mode until he vomits. The only way I could prevent this happening was to sit with him and pick up his bowl after he took a bite. I then waited until he swallowed that bite before allowing him to have the next bite. So I ordered this smaller bowl (his muzzle is bigger than the food holder part). It holds 3 cups of kibble. I just got it and gave him his dinner in it and it did slow him down enough he didn't choke!!! i'm very happy!!! For what it's worth I had been using the large size Slow Feed bowl!!!

Using small size for cat
I'm so glad someone makes this product! I purchased the small size bowl for my cat who sometimes throws up from eating too fast. She only eats wet food and it is easy to spread around the circular bowl. The small size bowl is larger than I expected it to be, so I am not sure how well it will work for cats eating dry food. But dry food dehydrates cats, so it isn't a good idea to feed to them anyway. This bowl seems to be helping my cat. She has thrown up once in the last 5 weeks or so that I have had this bowl, which is less than usual for her. I just purchased another bowl for my other cat. He tends to eat too fast also and I think it's probably better for him to eat more slowly. The bowl is nicely weighted and has a non-skid bottom. I was afraid it might be flimsy but it is not at all. I would say it qualifies as a heavy duty bowl and it is easy to clean.

great product and easy to clean
Other slow feed bowls were difficult to clean and sometimes frustrating for my dog. This is the 2nd one of these I purchased so we have one to take camping as well. It isn't your typical slow feed bowl but does work for those that only need to minimally slow down eating and is a breeze to clean!

早食いの犬に効果あり
早食いでゲップするのが気になって購入しました。弱冠ですが、以前より食べる時間が長くなり、買ってよかったです。突起の出ているものより、形がシンプルなところが、気に入っています。
