Mobile / iOS devices not natively supported. Use the dongle.
For my test, I attached the transmitter to the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter (A1621)which I then connected to my Apple MacBook Pro from 2016. I attached the receiver to my LG gaming monitor. I didn’t get sound when playing YouTube. From googling, it looks like it might be because I have an older Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter. (It looks like maybe the A2119 model would work.)As expected, the pairing “just worked.” I had no need to re-pair the device. But that wasn’t actually my primary use case. I requested this item because I wanted to see if I could stream non-youtube apps from my ios devices. Specifically, I had been taking a couple courses on EDX, and I found that looking at the larger TV upstairs for lectures was a treat, but it took a LOT of finagling because the streaming interface on EDX’s website and/or app is buggy and the LG software on my TV is flaky as well. (Perhaps you can see where this is going? I might have higher standards for my software than most.)If you’re JUST using the dongle, you’re golden with this setup.Do NOT -however- believe that the claims that mobile devices are as seamless. Instead, you’re required to connect to the devices insecure wifi. (For goodness sake, they could have at least had the device generate different passwords per device and have THAT displayed. Instead, they’re using a Spaceballs password.)I’ve attached a screenshot of the “instructions” that show when you’re not streaming from your transmitter. I wasn’t comfortable connecting with my phone so I tried an old Kindle Fire I had sitting around. No dice. As in, the Kindle wouldn’t connect to the RX-XXXXX network. I cannot say I’m surprised – it’s old. I’m going to have to find another sacrificial device to connect to this wifi to manage it and dive into the settings. This does NOT use any standard APIS for streaming as far as I can see, but it does mention Samsung and Huawei in its Android “instructions.”So… I’m probably off to purchase an expensive Apple Lightning to HDMI adapter. That seems safer than connecting to this device’s wifi. And yes, I am that person with the black tape over my webcam.Again, if you’re JUST using the dongle (and you have the latest and greatest adapters) you’re probably golden with this setup. I love the idea of camper video night from one of the other reviews. I might have to steal that idea. ;-)

Perfect for movie night from the camper
So I have a projector for my camper. Inside the camper I have a Blu ray player and TV, but I want to use the projector outside. I can run wires all over the place and leave the door open letting bugs in, or... I can use this! So I know my Blu Ray Player is not 4k. but I know I had to find a transmitter that is 4k so I knew it'd have a good enough frame refresh rate at 1080 or 720... When getting something like this always go one level higher than you need. If you absolutely have to have a 4k unit then buy an 8k and use it for 4. If you need a 720 then buy a 1080 or higher. You always have to be mindful of the refresh rate if you are using this for movies, TV, sports, etc. If you're using it for a presentation with graphs then it doesn't matter.Anyway, this is super convenient. The projector is a mini unit that has an LED optical engine and is perfect for the camper. The trouble always has been that I need to run all the wires then worry about who is going to trip over what and cause which issues... Now I only need one power cord and everything is sorted. If you have a source that outputs to an HDMI then you can use this. The receiver on the other end will give you an HDMI output, an audio jack output and a computer VGA output so you can use a computer monitor.I have not tried the apple screen casting yet but am hopeful that works well too.One thing to note is that you need a usb power supply. If you are using your laptop that's no big deal as it has USB ports built in but if you're using a different source then you'll need a wall outlet USB power supply. Also it has to be 5+v at 2+amps, so that's 10 watts minimum. Many of the smaller (older) ones are less than that. Newer USB power supplies or bigger ones are normally 11 watts or more. Just make sure you have the right supply before you try to use it and you should be good.Happy camping!

Easy to use, digital and analog video connections, transmits audio over HDMI as well
I was surprised at how well this worked and how easy it was to operate. Out of the box, the transmitter and receiver are paired so it's very quick to get up and running without any prep or requirement to read the instructions. The back of the receiver has both analog (VGA) and digital (HDMI) outputs which allows for some flexibility with various types of displays. The transmitters supports HDMI IN only, USB type C is used to power both the transmitter and receiver, not as an source input. For my test, I attached the transmitter to an Apple Lightning to HDMI adapter and then to an iPad and streamed a YouTube video to a multimedia projector that was connected to the HDMI port of the receiver . Both audio and video were clear and I did not notice any obvious or degradation in quality of either. I haven't tried a 4K source, but 1080P works well.I can see many potential uses for this:* Streaming content from a device to your home projector in your home or outdoor movie theater* In a business environment for easy screen sharing to a TV, monitor or projector* At a wedding, birthday or other gathering to share a slide show or video where the source device is in a convenient and manageable location
