Beautiful watercolors and spot-on kitten cuteness
My daughter and I have loved this book since we first read it over a year ago (she's five now). The watercolors/ink drawings are really eye catching and I find them beautiful. The adventures of Posy the kitten are adorable and this book captures what cuteness and mischief abounds around little kittens with very little text. One of our favorite sets of pages is "Sock inspector...board game wrecker!" We have cats whose personalities mirror Posy's and we enjoy this book very much--gets giggles every time!

Pure Perfect Posy
I carried a picture of Posy in my wallet for ages until I bought a copy of the book on Amamzon. I would like another just so I could cut out the pix of Posy who may be the almost cutest kitten ever drawn (well - the cutest). The prose is wonderful - but it's Posy who will win your heart. I bought her for myself - not a child.

Gift for someone else
I didn't buy this for myself, but I assume the person that received it liked it, so here's a neutral rating. It's a children's book, so, come on.

Get ready to fall in love with Posy
We stumbled upon this book at the library and it's a major hit with my 4 yo and 6.5 yo. Like other reviewers said it's more of a long, lyrical poem, but the language is great as well as the "storyline". You follow Posy through her day to day activities and get to know her personality. It's super cute and even I love it. The illustrations are absolutely adorable, I would love to be able to buy a print of Posy for my 4 yo.

Posy
ISBN 1416971122 - Children's books always interest me and Posy seemed to have some potential; I'm just a little bit disappointed. This isn't a negative review, it's just that there are some things to know before you buy it.The reader is introduced to Posy, a kitten. Posy and her antics are described in rhyming phrases and illustrated in somewhat "scribbly" watercolor images.Amazon lists the book as for ages Baby-Preschool, the book says for ages 2-5; both are, in my opinion, accurate enough. Although this isn't the typical board book for the pre-reading set, it is perfect for reading aloud. Many words used are too hard for even the most advanced five year old anyway, and reading aloud to your child is important - just know that the pages are thin, standard, paper and will not stand up to rough handling. The text, by Linda Newbery, is fun. The rhyme flows smoothly, is a little silly (like kittens!) and will entertain a very young child. Older kids will find it boring, but it's not FOR older kids, so that's okay! The only real negative, to me, is the illustrations, by award-winning illustrator Catherine Rayner. Posy generally resembles the sort of kitten that you think a talented child might draw, and it's cute. Oddly, almost everything else in the images has a far more "solid" appearance than Posy does, so Rayner is clearly capable of drawing solid objects with definite edges. Most of the illustrations are fine, if not stellar. Periodically, however, it just doesn't work. Posy blends into things around her, usually another cat, which turns those images into just a ball of colors. In real life, a ball of similarly colored cats is adorable, but in this book, it's just a bit "eh". I think my disappointment is as an adult, and I don't think children will share my opinions, so I'm giving the book the 4 stars that I think a 3.5 year old would give it.- AnnaLovesBooks

Very Sweet
My three year old daughter loves books and cats, so POSY was a perfect choice for her. She loved reading about Posy, acting out Posy's antics, and pointing out details in the illustrations. POSY, written by Linda Newbery and illustrated by Catherine Rayner, is a charming, endearing, frolicking look at the typical day of a small, curious, energetic kitten. (Which just happens to be the same description of a young girl that I know!)POSY is not a story, per se. It is more of a long, rhyming poem with lovely illustrations. The rhythm and rhyme of the poem are pleasing to young children's ears, and my child was drawn to the vocabulary and the language. In several places, she giggled with obvious glee, delighting in both the words and the pictures. The illustrations are very attractive. I would guess that they are mostly watercolor with ink pen for definition. They are very cute, and have enough detail to see the action that is described. My one criticism would be that they are too muted. The color pallet should be brighter and more vivid for young children. However, the energy and sense of playfulness of this adorable kitten come shining through. The pace is nice for a bedtime book - POSY starts out very active, running around, getting into mischief. But by the end of the book, it is time for cuddles, snuggles, and sleeping. Just right. My little one asks for this new book several times a week. I RECOMMEND this book for small ones through preschool age and beginning readers (particularly those with larger vocabularies). If your child likes animals, especially cats and kittens, POSY will be a good choice.

Cute Descriptive Cat Book
This is a cute picture book. Little rhyming phrases describe a normal day in the life of Posy, the kitten. Many of the descriptions apply to our cats so they loved this book! Our cat, Spunky Doodle, was being the "hissy spitter" in our blog header for this week which was one of the descriptive phrases used in this book. I liked it because of the clever rhyming phrases that describe cats in general as well as because many applied to our cats. It made this cat lover giggle.

Posy.....Well, I Supposey!
this book appears to be nice, well presented, but i have to go on the reaction of the target audience, which is my 3 year old grand-daughter..........and she was interested at first, but underwhelmed and easily distracted when i read it for her. i'd go as far as to say polite feigned interest on her part.no real connection was apparent regarding the script (which on my reflection appears to be aiming at 'clever'), using words like 'earner' and the like, that are unfamiliar and unlikely to turn up much in her world.the same appears to be true of the illustrations, which fail to generate that 'awww, nice' factor, several of which, had they not been in series, would not instantly register as being of a cat - a little too abstract perhaps?on the whole her reaction was insufficient to suggest that this is likely to become a favourite, or even anything she may return to time and time again, as she does with books she relishes and treasures.
