Excellent textbook to learn foundations
I bought one of these books for one of my biomedical physiology class and although our professor tests us nothing about these types of concepts, I feel like it helps me learn physiology more just for learning it for "fun." I feel like I understand the biomedical pathways a lot better reading this and can explain it to others. The new textbook also comes with an Elsevier Student Inkling code access where you can get the pdf version and there are some other helpful resources online. I will definitely be keeping this book as a reference.

Awesome physiology resource!
Costanzo covers topics in physiology in a very easy-to-follow and logical manner. This book is great both for those who are trying to supplement other textbooks while learning physiology or for those who just want to brush up on their knowledge. I cannot recommend this enough for medical students

Best physiology instruction for med students
Costanzo’s Physiology is the best textbook ever written for medical students. As a tutor during M2-M4, Physiology was the only “textbook” I ever recommended students read cover to cover (not all at once of course, but reading the appropriate section before starting a new unit and again before the test). I loaned mine out so much, I had to buy it again from time to time since some never came back. She (taught for decades at a university medical school) tells you exactly what you need to know and nothing more with respect to physiology applied to medicine. The maroon boxes/case examples are a highlight, breaking down the complex pathophysiology of conditions like DKA into easily understandable concepts. The foundational knowledge gained will serve any reader throughout their medical career. I still thumb through the sections on metabolism, renal electrolyte balance, and hormone loops years later. For test prep (i.e. Step 1, 2CK), Linda Costanzo is also the author of the BRS Phys review book, which is great too but is no substitute for the original long form textbook for initial learning. If your medical school’s physiology instruction/course is subpar or you feel understandably lost, or you simply want a gratifying knowledge boost, this book can help you.

If you never buy the class text start now with this one
Dr. Costanzo has found a way to simplify one of the most advanced subjects in medicine. I used this book to supplement my lectures in masters level medical courses but I eventually found myself using it as a primary source.I'm not saying you should read this book from front to back. When you get to the grad level/professional health school level, you simply have no time to do that. What you should do is utilize the tables, diagrams, and practice problems. I always say, look at any text book and the thickness will tell you the importance. The thicker the text, the more minutia within. Costanzo gives you the high yields and just enough of the devilish details to paint the whole picture (and feed your curiosity). I also highly recommend her brief lecture series that come with the access code.Also- READ the introductory chapter of cell bio. It is an excellent refresher and really helps when you start on the different system chapters.Every chapter in this book is great. However, I found the chapters on Cardio, Pulm, and Renal to be the most helpful.

An outstanding supplement for Step 1 prep
A great book for USMLE Step 1 reference. I like to know the whys behind things. Most ppl suggest memorize first aid memorize qbanks. But knowing the why helps the information to stick better. This book is my sole reference beyond an occasional google search when I need to know a why. Beautiful illustration and excellent writing that goes into the perfect degree of depth. Thank you very much.

I love this textbook
I love this textbook, it is every medical student's best friend. If you don't already have it, buy it ! It will help clarify concepts for you throughout your systems. She breaks things down to the most basic level so that you are able to understand the reasoning behind the rules taught to you in class

Get the Kindle version for a resource on the go
Usually, I prefer paper copies, but it's so nice to have this resource on the kindle app on my tablet. If I got some time to kill, I brush up on some endocrine system and can easily carry it everywhere. The price isn't bad either. I coulda been just fine if I bought this for 43 bucks and skipped out on my crazy expensive and heavy undergrad A&P book and used youtube or image web searches for the anatomy lab section. There's tons of free resources. My only complaint is some of the tables don't fit well in the app.

Still the best.
Costanzo is a staple in medical physiology. I use this big Costanzo for my first passes on topics in class and supplement with BRS (baby) physiology around exam time. For USMLE step 1 prep, BRS has been part of many people's success. Using big Costanzo will make BRS consolidation much easier. There are, however, entire topics that are omitted from BRS (i.e. countercurrent multiplier details) which are most likely a reflection of their unimportance for boards. It is to the point and concise when compared to the likes of other more cumbersome medical physiology texts (Hall, etc.).
