Thoughtful
I read a little each morning and ponder each new idea. Food for thought.

A Shift in Perception
I read this book over 20 years ago. I have purchased many copies of the book and given it away to friends. I was stunned by it's ferocity and incite. This is a native woman's observation and perception of nature. It is steeped in the traditions of her Chickasaw heritage. Poetic and deep, it's never lost it's impact. I've re-read the book often, it never tires.

Beautiful Weaving of worlds
A beautifully written book blending Hogan's Native ancestry with the world at large. When I got done with this book, I was ready to hide in a cave waiting for feathers to land in my lap. Loved it!

Good message
I was a little disappointed, given the previous reviews. Much preferred Braiding Sweetgrass to this.

Rants in every chapter
I bought this book expecting it to have lyrical prose, close observations of nature and a spiritual perspective. I was going to give it as a gift, and after reading other reviews I expected it to be uplifting. Before I gift wrapped it, I dipped into it in a few places and was surprised to see the writer expressing disappointment in how people treat nature as the main thrust in every essay I reviewed. Sadness was the emotion I felt. I went back to it at three different times, just to make sure that my evaluation remained the same.I agree with the author that people are desecrating Nature at every turn, but that was not what I expected to find in this book, based on the other reviews. Not only that, this book popped up on my recommendations list because I was searching for Loren Eisley, and its prose is -- well, prosaic.I returned the copies I bought. It just wasn't for me, even to pass on.

Are you Homeless or Present?
All things on earth, sky, water, stars are faces of god. If there is no reverance, God is not exactly present. That's what I'm getting out of it. It fits with my Buddhist studies and general interpretation of....living,loving light.

Makes you feel more connected to the world.
A book that relaxes you with the calm breeze that blows with the scenery of the words.

An important book for these disconnected times
A wonderful walk along the spiritual borderline between the human and animal kingdoms, only to discover that in many places the border has evaporated. The american indian sense of the sacrosanct in nature survives today, whilst in Europe it disappeared with the Age of Reason; reason killed our interdependence with nature, which we no longer hold in awe. A great book for over-reasonable people, who need magic in their lives.

un enchantement
immense qualité poétique, le "réenchantement" du monde naturel à travers le prisme de la vision holistique des Amérindiens, par un écrivain hors-pair.
