"Best value of the best" X99 Deluxe
If there was ever a category of "best value of the best", ASUS' Deluxe line would be it. Yes, there are more expensive motherboards with more features and cheaper 'bang for your buck' boards, but the Deluxe boards deliver the best mix of quality and performance without requiring a kidney donation. The ASUS X99 Deluxe definitely isn't cheap, but if you're building a consumer workstation, you won't be disappointed with this one.The included accessories are fairly standard (e.g., manuals, cables, SLI bridge). A wi-fi adapter is included as in prior Deluxe line boards. Of note in the accessory packet is a fan expansion module and a M.2 SSD mounting bracket.Physically, the X99 Deluxe is packed to the limit. You have 8 DDR4 DIMM slots (4 on each side of the CPU), 5 PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots, 1 PCI-E 2.0 x4 slot, 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 headers, HD and AC '97 headers, 6 fan connectors and an external fan connector. There are also ASUS' various proprietary features such as TPU and MemOK that are better explained in the manual than I can. I didn't like the placement of the USB 3.0 headers and power/reset buttons. If you have an audio or video card of reasonable length that expands into the lowest PCI slot, it's going to conflict when you try to put in your case's USB 3.0 header. A 2-slot videocard will also cover the power/reset buttons even if you decide not to use the USB 3.0 header, rendering those useless. I ended up putting one 2-slot videocard in the top PCI slot, another 2-slot videocard in the 3rd PCI slot, and a sound card in the 5th PCI slot, with the 6th slot being unusable. Prepare to do some placement planning with your setup. On the back, you get the standard X99 10 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 ports, audio connections, 2 LAN ports and the wi-fi antenna connectors. Inside, the X99 platform gives 12 SATA 3 6.0 Gbps ports and 2 SAS/SATA Express ports. There are 2 Intel SATA controllers, #1 controls 6 ports and #2 controls 4 ports, and ASUS' ASmedia controller that handles the last two ports. You can give up the bottom four SATA ports to connect two SAS drives. I'm not sure why ASUS did this, but the SATA port arrangement seems incredibly silly. Perhaps because of the SAS ports, the ports are all over the place. The top two ports under controller #1 are physically separated from the others by ~1cm. You meet two more of controller #1's ports before you run into all four of controller #2's SATA ports. The issue is that only controller #1's ports are RAID-capable. Finally, the last 4 SATA/2 SAS ports are made up by controller #1's last two SATA ports and the ASmedia ports, but the ASmedia ports can only take data drives. Confused? Since this board is going into an actual workstation PC with a lot of hard drives, I ended having to make a diagram to figure out which ports could take RAID arrays, CD drives and lone drives. Not a deal breaker but just annoying during setup.ASUS' UEFI BIOS has always been straightforward to use, even though there are many advanced options, and the X99 Deluxe's is no different. For overclocking, most of the options can be left on Auto aside from the CPU core voltage - it's improved a lot since Sandy Bridge when Intel changed the overclocking system. A 4.4-4.5 GHz using a 45x multiplier, 100 MHz base clock and 1.3V would be a good result. I'll put in my own results when I have more time. That's pretty much it. It's not cheap at nearly $400, but if you want to build a good workstation at moderate cost, the X99 Deluxe should be at the top of your consideration list (if you're solely a gamer, you should be looking at Z97 chipsets).

ASUS Supporft practically non-existant ... unless its one of their headline produces of course.. otherwise don't bother
I make a habit of not writing bad reviews. But being an Senior IT Service Delivery Manager for years I can't stand by and let people buy something based on misleading information and poor if non-existent support. I purchased an X99 Deluxe MB, STRIX GTX 960 Graphics, ASUS Monitor, Router, and many other ASUS components because in the past I trusted ASUS quality and support and I wanted one seamless, integrated solution supported by a known quality manufacturer. So I'm giving this 1 star because ASUS support is practically non-existent yet they will respond here with questions about (*please tell us the problem, we will support you, please e-mail us, we will open a case for your and solve your problem). Been there, done that, multiple times, over and over as you will see if you look at the thousands of people pleading for help on a product that simply does not work. Why am I writing this really poor review? Take a look at the ASUS "Forums" and search on "HomeCloud". you will find hundreds of posts for help on that "bundled and promised to work" product, over 10,000 (you read that right "Ten Thousand") views and NOT ONE of the posts have a solution to why the "ASUS HomeCloud" produce fails over and over and over and over again. All these people are frustrated and upset that the bundled software for ASUS products simply don't work and ASUS is blowing them off for support. In fact, take a quick search on Google for ASUS HomeCloud. You'll be shocked and run as fast as you can to a different brand; i kinda wish I had but the saving grace is their hardware realy is pretty solid and perfoms very well.So when I (and many many others) try to get support on the software ASUS promises out of the box (Home Cloud happens to be one of the explicit benefits of why I chose to go all out ASUS) I get nothing but a runaround (send us logs, send us email, re-install, reboot, etc. etc.).If you want ASUS because you think you will get your own personal cloud storage.... don't, Go buy a different manufacturers product that will stand behind their product. So FIX IT ASUS, then, after you've fixed it, tested it, proven it works (and by the way, that it works in the USA) go help the people pleading for help and frustrated on your and other IT forum sites about it.

Awesome motherboard for any X99 build
Awesome motherboard for any X99 build. I wouldn't recommend installing Ai Suite 3 to perform the "5 way optimization", just manage your overclock and fan settings within the BIOS. Built-in Wifi and Bluetooth are nice features if you're inclined to use those features.
